Are there different potty rules for boys and girls?

posted 13th Feb
My husband obviously thinks that there are. If we are in the car and the urge crops up on the kids he handles it differently. When our son needs to go bad, he will hand him a bottle and have him go in there (which I think is totally gross), but for our daughter, he tells her to hold it, even if its an emergency.

Idk, what do you think?

I think he's being an ass to both kids. Pull the smurf over and find a bathroom.

OR... a friend of mine always kept a potty in her trunk with plastic bags and toilet paper...

rules are rules and should be the same tho I get the convenience of it
its not fair and if you want things to be fair in your home do something different like all kids have to go on the side of the road behind a bush whatever works if not sadly introduce your daughter to the suckyness of not having outside organs for things like that but hey she will have a great bladder lol btw I am also being super sarcastic dont want you to think I am being rude

I think your husband is being an smurf to both the kids, though more sonto your daughter. Why should she have to sit in pain holding her pee in when her brother gets relief? Why can't he just pull over and find a bathroom? Douche
And holding your pee in for a long time can cause infection.

ETA: and let me guess, If they were to have an accident in the car he would be angry with them right?

um, what the smurf??

Making your daughter hold her urine can lead to UTI's. Plus, that's just messed up.

I should clarify...he doesnt yell at her or anything like that, he just asks her to hold it until the next rest stop or gas station.

If he pulls over to let her go as soon as he can that's totally fine. Your son should have to do the same. Peeing in a bottle is gross.

Doesnt matter. IMO that is borderline abusive...that can cause bladder infections, UTIs etc.

My Dh has told me that his grandparents used to have him pee in a bottle. I thought it was gross & have been clear we won't be doing that with our boys. I just wouldn't do it. The ONLY time I would is if it were nighttime, no rest stops & it happened to be a nasty cold day here (we get below zero temps here at times. I would also try to find a similar alternative for a girl as well.

Please. Having your kid hold it until the next exit or rest stop so you can have them go somewhere safer than the side of the free way is not abuse. I do the same. If the next bathroom is too far I get off the high way and have them pee on the side of the road. But waiting for the next restroom (as long as it isn't too far) is not abusive.

It is bad for anyone to hold their pee. The second anyone has to pee with me I start looking for a restroom. Your husband is an inconsiderate smurf.

Agreed tho I agree holding it puts at risk for uti its safer if a bathroom is closer same rule applies to boys holding if

The only fair solution is to make both kids wait. Until you pull over in the side of the road, find a bathroom, whatever.

It's abusive to make her wait until they get to a bathroom? Shall he just pull over and let her squat on the side of the road for all to see?

She already said he just has her hold it until the next restroom. I think that's pretty standard. Although I think her son should be doing the same.
