Is there anything I can get over the counter for this or do I need to take her to a doctor?

They have eye drops for pink eye but I wouldn't count on those to kill it.. I'd go to the dr. and get some prescription eye drops.

You can try a warm washcloth placed on your eye (closed) to draw the nastiness out. If it's truly pink eye though you'll need eye drops from a doctor.

If you breastfeed then you can put a couple drops of breast milk in her eye to kill the bacteria if you don't then you need to take her to the doctor for drops.

I wouldn't give an infant anything OTC. Just call the pedi.

If you go to the pharmacy and buy some saline solution and some cotton balls, soak one in the saline for each eye and wipe from the inner corner to the outer. That should help a little. Also warm water on the cotton and doing the same will loosen up the gunk that's already dried on. Same rules apply! Don't use the same piece of cotton to wipe it more than once because it'll spread the bacteria.

saline is not going to cure an eye infection.

there are otc drops...
I've had great luck with these... if it's caught early. if it's too bad, only perscriptions drops will work

Call the pedi. My sons doctor will call a script in as long as its not accompanied with a fever, then they want me to bring them in.

You need the prescription drops.

Usually, my kids only get it from sinus infections or colds. Theyve never caught it.

How old is she? Where I live there's not a lot of over the counter meds they give out to babies under 12months.
Like, you can fib and say its for someone else but if I flatout said " my 6month old has conjunctivitis" they wouldn't sell me anything.
So I'd take her to the dr to make sure it is actually conjunctivitis.

Also, I've heard breast milk isn't good for clearing eye infections, it's the perfect good for bacteria to eat and stuff. And this came from a doctor friend.

Hmmmm...my kiddo had stuff going on in her eye and I put breast milk in it and it cleared up. Furthermore, with pink eye it hurts or is irritating so if anything, the breast milk is soothing.

It is always worth a shot. I'd rather try the bm first then put chemicals into LO eyes.

It would be interesting to hear your doctor friends opinion as to why.

I put breastmilk in my eye when I had pink eye and it made it worse. My eye ended up swelling shut! Never again!
