car registration help

ours expires this month, and i was just about to renew it, BUT we're trying to buy a new car pretty much asap just not sure we'll find the right one this month or not.. so the question is, we'll have to pay for registration for the new car right?? it won't carry over, correct? (we're selling the old one)

It depends on your state. We pay based on the license plate itself. The type of vehicle and the year do weigh in but not a whole lot here. I'd call your courthouse (or whoever handles the car registration stuff) in your state.

In Ohio you can transfer it to your new car as long as you sell your other. I'd get a temporary tag for the new car, sell the old one, and then transfer the tag. That is just me. Good luck.

I would call the DMV and ask. I know here in Utah it would not carry over.

Since I am from Colorado, this might help ya out.   I traded in my Intrepid for a Highlander this past summer. It had until 10-12 on the plates so when I got stickers for the new car...I was PRORATED for the time I hate left on the old plates. This is what they'll do for you when you trade your car in as long as you mention it and USE YOUR OLD PLATES ON NEW CAR.

so when we sell it we keep the plates? i've never heard of that until today(also saw it on the dmv site).. i'll have to tell dustin to make sure he does that

Not quite sure if you're SELLING your own vehicle. That, I'd call the DMV and ask. I traded ours in with a dealership which was easier IMO.

we're gonna try that but if they won't give us what it's worth according to DH then he says we'll try to sell it privately so we shall see
