Quoting Yurvette [♥]:" Wait let me get this straight.. he wants wait for this ear infection to go away and stay away for 6 weeks ... [snip!] ... hearing loss, its not the end of the world! Im living proof! lol. Im deaf in on ear and slowly going deaf in my other ear. "No. She wants to wait 6 weeks to see if the fluid in his ear doesn't clear up on it's own. Generally they wait 3 months to see if the fluid subsides on it's own before resorting to tubes. HOWEVER, if he gets more ear infections she will just make an appointment for tubes because of the severity and how many antibiotics he has been on.
Quoting MunchkinWrangler:" No. She wants to wait 6 weeks to see if the fluid in his ear doesn't clear up on it's own. Generally ... [snip!] ... obviously not well from that ear at all. It shouldn't effect his speech/development as long as it is just that ear, apparently."
Quoting Yurvette [♥]:" Oh. Now I understand it. I would see another ENT that doesnt sound right. 6 weeks of antibotics, 6 weeks ... [snip!] ... and she wants to wait. I would wait a couple more weeks to see if it clears up.. if it doesnt then I would take him back. "
Quoting Nikki Hart:" I think you are doing the right thing by waiting on the tubes. I had many many ear infections when I ... [snip!] ... ears four different times. The tubes never worked and now I have to much scar tissue in my ears for them to do anything else."Thanks. I know what we're doing is right... I just hope that it clears up and he doesn't need them. However, if his ears get infected again, I definitely want him to have the tubes..... he's been so miserable. Waking up screaming in the middle of the night, loss of appetite. He's such an incredibly happy and easy going baby so to hear him cry is simply heartbreaking. Thankfully the infections are gone for now. Only time will tell.

One thing that really helps me with the pain is a really warm washcloth or warm compress on the ear. Also, ear candles, though I don't know how well he would lay for that at his age.
