My Stubborn Little Girl

posted 12th Feb
So my baby is 8 months and one week. I just to be re-assured that this is normal! So my baby gets up at night anywhere from 5-6 times at time. Some nights if I get lucky is less, other nights it could be a few more. I have tried quite a few things to try and help her sleep better at night. For example, I tired giving her watered down milk at night to try and get her use to not needing it at night. It hasn't been working out though. I leave her in her bed and just give her a bottle like that, but even that isn't working, I might as well hold her and give her a bottle because its the same outcome. Currently she has 2 naps a day, a morning one at 9, and another between 1 and 2. Before I was told to bring her down to one nap, so I tried to putting her down at 12, that lasted for about 2 weeks maybe before I gave up on that because it didn't make things worse nor better. Please if anyone has any advice!

You should never give a baby a bottle in bed.
Causes bottle rot and forms a bad habits as well.

Giving a baby a bottle in bed sounds unsafe. Also, I hope you mean BREASTmilk or formula, not cow's milk.

formula, and I know I should give her no bottle, but if I don't she literally screams and cries as if I'm sawing a leg off. It sounds as if I hurt her or something. So its kind of hard not too, I've tried so many times! I don't believe in thee CIO method.

Who told she she needed to be down to 1 nap? My 8 month old still takes 3 naps a day. Sometimes just 2 but normally 3 and they are all around 1-2 hours each.

These ladies my husband works for. They have kids and grandkids of their own that did the same stuff my baby is doing and it worked for them but not me. I mean it didn't bother my LO, I just had to keep her occupied.

i know they said not to give her a bottle in bed it will rot out her teeth and create a bad habit but it really doesnt. I did that when my 2 year old was little and his teeth are pearly white and ever since he turned a year old he goes to bed without a bottle or sippy he just needs his blankets. I know how you feel and i know how fustrating it is cause now im going through the same thing with my 5 month old and im going nuts

I know, Its not hurting her teeth, and I brush them for her. My 8 month old does not like her blankies! She thinks its a toy but if I cover her up at night she'll get wrapped up in it and she gets mad. She moves so much at night I cant keep anything in her bed but her or she'll wake up mad again.

lol at the no bottles in bed, smoking and drinking causes bad habits to. If LO is hungry what are you going to deny food, come one. I did (do) it with both and both boys teeth and guns are fine and have no issues.

My 9 month old is doing this. He wakes up 2-3 times a night. A few times hes slept through but only a handful. I give him his bottle in bed and his teeth are fine, its not gonna hurt him. Just wait 5 years then they will be telling you it doesn't cause damage. They always change what is "best" for babies. Anyway, the best thing ive found is filling his tummy before he goes to sleep. Either with baby oatmeal and a fruit or something to the equivalent. he sleeps longer before he wakes up when he has a full belly, and it takes longer to digest than just the milk. Then again when he wakes up I just give him his bottle and he goes back to sleep. I don't have to rock him. I dunno if you're doing solids or not, but I would suggest trying to fill her belly before she goes to sleep. Find something heavier that she likes.   His favorite is oatmeal with applesauce

Filling your kid's tummy up with something heavier so that they sleep for longer periods of time? What a selfish thing to do. Most babies aren't physically capable of sleeping through the night right from the get go, or even at 9 months. And you just keep feeding your baby when he wakes up to get him to go back to sleep? Are you not considered about him possibly choking to death in his crib after you fill him up with all that smurf?

No im not concerned. He wakes up wanting his bottle. Its his comfort. And yes I feed him because he is a baby and needs to eat. Why have him disrupting his sleep because hes hungry when I can feed him before he goes to bed? He gets more sleep and its better sleep than waking up. I don't expect him to sleep through the night, but the better he sleeps the better it is for him. Call me whatever you want but I know how to take care of my son, hes healthy and happy. Don't need your advice, thanks tho. Lol.

I do feed her solids, I give her either fruits or vegies an hour before bed time, and then I give her about 5 oz of formula before bed. I put her down at 8ish, then she usually gets up around 11 or 12, then about every hour or 2 after that. I keep watering down her bottles at night so I can keep her from wanting it at night, trying to get her use to not wanting it.
