Cosleeping...

posted 12th Feb
My newborn will not sleep in her bassinet or crib at night. She wakes up every 5-10 minutes, no matter what. She also has really bad gas and spits up a lot at night when she's in the bassinet/crib. The only way she will sleep is if she's in bed with DH and me. I've tried picking her up to put her back to sleep before putting her back in the bassinet, but I ended up staying up all night.

Her pediatrician is against cosleeping PERIOD. Is it really that much of an issue? I don't know how else to get her to sleep. He says she can't sleep in a carseat or her swing or on the sofa with me. Then he says that I need to make sure I'm getting as much sleep as possible to avoid PPD...

Where is she supposed to sleep at night?

I co slept just fine. I had him in a cradle position with my free arm over him the whole night.

However. it sounds like reflux. Try having him sleep in a sleep or a bouncy with inclined position. That should help.

I would also switch doctors if he isnt seeing the signs of reflux. They usually will tell you to switch formula of prescribe zantac.

i would switch every few nights because he wouldn't sleep in the same thing every night. We went from his crib,to his car seat, to a bouncer, to his big swing, little swing to my bed. He loved the car seat the most.
There is nothing wrong with co sleeping or putting the baby where he is comfortable

Cosleeping is fine, if done correctly/safely. I did not cosleep with my son, but I did with my daughter until she was 3months and turned into a baby ninja at nite. We still do cosleep on occasion now, she is almost 1, typically when she is sick or grumpy and won't settle. My pedi has also recommended my kids to sleep in their carseats when sick, to help with drainage so idk what's up with that. I'm sure he probably just meant not every nite. My son also had gas issues and the ONLY way he would sleep for a few months straight was in his swing. I think the real issue comes down to safety. If they're buckled in the swing, and it's in your room etc...and that's the ONLY way they sleep...i think it'd be fine. However, I also do not see an issue with cosleeping.

They can have Mylecon at any age, because it doesn't get absorbed into the bloodstream or something like that. My daughter had it that young.

She's breastfed. I plan to start seeing someone else in the office.

I hold her like that when I sleep. DH is always on the other half of the bed.

Usually the gas drops are all natural so it's ok at any age and you can give it to them as needed. My youngest had bad refulx and we had to have her in an almost sit up position to sleep. I see nothing wrong with co sleeping. Usually when accidents happen is when the parent took sleep meds or is drunk, etc.
