How can I fix this?!

posted 12th Feb
My son is 9 weeks old. He's had horrible RSV for the past week so he's been sleeping in his carseat inside of his bassinet. He slept a lot while he was sick. Thankfully, he's about over it completely. But our routine was definitely interrupted.

Well, this is how my night as gone for the past 2 nights: eat 2 ounces, burp, fall asleep, put him in his bed, wake up 5 minutes later wanting the rest of the bottle, feed, burp, fall asleep, put back in bed, sleep, wake up, want paci, sleep wake up, want paci, sleep wake up, want paci, sleep wake up, want paci, finally fall asleep for more than 5 minutes.

And then....every two-three hours, it starts over. I watch him while he's in his swing and he will fall asleep, and move his hands just to wake himself up. But his swing is the only thing he will remain asleep in, as of today. I can't exactly leave him there all night, considering it's in the living room and I have to get some sleep somehow..

  I'm so tired..

You don't. That's a newborn. Get used to it.

why the hell would you put a car seat in a bassinett first off? Try swaddling him

He's 9 weeks old. You should be swaddling him at night so that his arms don't wake him up. Babies can't control their arms when they're little and they'll constantly smack themselves in the face and wake themselves up.

Well...My newborn has never been this way, ever. Since the day he came home, he slept in at least 3 hour increments.

I thought baby sleeping in a carseat was a big no-no because of the positioning? And if you find an answer let me know, Abby is almost 5 months and she had her schedule down but got sick and is now back to waking every 2 hours...I'm just dealing with it and sleeping when I can. Hoping she'll switch back to her old schedule soon.

He had RSV, was hospitalized for it, and would have drowned in his mucus if he hadn't been on an incline. My bed is about 4 feet off the ground and the car seat fit perfectly inside the bassinet. So......It worked pretty grand.

Read my last post. I leaned the carseat back so he was just in a slight incline. The bassinet held it in perfect place so I could adjust it up and down as I needed.

I'm hoping the same. I've tried swaddling, but some how he always weasels his little arms and legs out. These babies.....

I'm looking for to my husband being off this weekend...

There are other ways to put your baby on an incline without the car seat inside the bassinet. As I've told you in previous threads, my daughter had RSV in November. And we didn't use a car seat to put her on an incline.

Do you know how to swaddle?

Yep. He hates it. He wiggles and wiggles until he gets his arms and legs free. He'd sleep on my chest all night if he could. Or...maybe not, now that he's discovered that he can wake himself up.

Although, I'm not asking for advice on whether I should allow him to sleep in a carseat or not. You have your ways, I have mine. He slept in his reclined carseat for 3 nights at the most and is perfectly fine. He didn't drown or choke, which is what I was aiming for. It worked for us and his pediatrician had nothing negative to say about it because it was only for a few nights, which...would (as he said) have been no different than him sleeping in the car on a long trip.

Well just a heads up, children's sleep patterns change for any/no reason and there's little you can do to fix it most of the times. Even if your kids has slept through the night for weeks, months, even years....there are phases they go through...and it will mess up their schedule.

That's what I was afraid of. It seems to be a phase, hopefully....a short one.

Do you put him to sleep on his back or his tummy in the bassinet?

Back, every time. I get so paranoid when I put him to sleep on his stomach. I've done it twice when he was refusing to go to sleep and he slept great...But I catch myself staying awake and staring at him..occasionally putting my hand on his back to make sure he's still breathing, lol.
