Sm*rfing Breastfeeding..

posted 12th Feb
I'm just going to do. I'm going to suck it up and put that baby on my boob.

I have some serious PTSD and if I could rip my boobs off my chest I would, the thought of having anyone, even a baby touch them everyday terrifies me.

But I'm going to damnit, I'm going remind myself everyday that this is best for him and he's not hurting me.
But because I didn't BF my first, Idk wtf I'm doing. No one around me BF and I'm clueless and have no support. I went to a class but I could barely pay attention then.

What will I need? Boppys? Nursing covers, where to I get those? ahhh idk!!

Boppy's are awesome... have you thought of going to see if there are BFing support groups in your area? Maybe mentally preparing yourself well beforehand will help you out... and being around other mothers already BFing?

I used the boppy when they were smaller, and i don't like nursing covers that are offered as 'nursing covers' so i'd use my big/thin (so we wouldn't get hot) boho-type scarves (when i'd actually use a cover)

Good luck!

Honestly, determination.

That is the only thing I needed to breastfeed.

Check out Kellymom.com they have the answers to any question you may think of.

No, you didn't, hun.

I know La Leche League has support groups, though I'm sure there are others out there. Even see if there are lactation consultants you could speak with before you give birth might help! <3

We used a Boppy at first but I don't most of the time now. We need to use a nipple shield or he won't latch, he just licks my nipples and whines or throws a fit. I use the Medela one, I tried tommee tippee and they SUCKED, he nursed for an hour and my boobs were still hard, so he clearly did not get much at all.

I pump occasionally just to get a small supply, and he has had a bottle twice so far, he only likes the tommee tippee one. It's frustrating and takes a lot of support from SO during night feedings because LO knocks the shield off, spilling milk all over and we both get sticky and frustrated.

You can do it. Just keep telling yourself its best for LO. I went through so much trouble formula feeding my first. He spit up all the time not matter what I did or how long he sat up. He got constipated. Never drank more than a 5 oz bottle up to a year old. BF is hard and I never expected it to e like this. But he is so much better than my first, in pooping and spit up.

I'd suggest looking into a breast feeding support group whether it be one person or on facebook or something. I used covers for awhile but the twins HATED covers I just whip it out and feed them these days as discreet as possible. I loved my boppy.

It's never too late, even if you had decided the day you gave birth. I personally never covered because my son hated it. I used a my breastfriend pillow (just like a boppy)

The ladies on here are great for support and try looking up an LLL group and a lactation consultant. Both are extremely helpful for thing like latch problems and tons more.

You havent waited too long, please dont feel that way, Dont make it a big issue for yourself and make sure its in your maternity notes as some MW'/nurses will try to help you as much as they can and if it makes you uncomfortable it wont help.

Read up as much as you can now - google: LaLeche League, Kelly Mom, Unicef baby friendly, and make notes, ask questions and as PP sadi join a local BF group its really the best and nicest thing you can do in the whole world.

As for products i can reccomend the Boppy though a V shaped cushion will work just as well and lots of lanisoh (nipple cream) take lots of time just to be with your baby too this will help xz

How will I know if I need a shield? Do they provide those in the hospital if I did?

I would get a boppy pillow and some Lansinoh cream (walmart). It definitely helps to apply it after feedings and before showering! Good luck! I've never heard a woman say that they wished they hadn't BF. I've heard plenty of women say they wished they had...

I only had to use a cover once, but I always fed her in private. Also, pick up a couple nursing bras and some disposable nursing pads for leaking.

I would avoid sheilds if you can - they can interfere with latch, milk supply and all sorts they are useful if you have alotof soreness but honeslty if you can make it through the first week without them you probably wont regret it x
