 poly-vi-sol any one use it?

posted 12th Feb
DS turns 13 months on the 28th and I've posted before how he will not eat solids at all! I've tried everything and anything, and it's impossible and so frustrating! At his 12 month check up he came out with low iron levels, his pedi wasn't concerned about it, but the WIC office was. Is poly-vi-sol any good? Do you give it to your LO?

I gave it to my son when he was a baby (there was no reason for it, he was on formula and had no problem eating solids). I give it to my daughter because she has been a picky eater for like 6 months. It tastes terrible so I usually mix hers in very chocolate milk or something (she barely drinks anything either so I kind of have to)

DS will only drink milk and a few snack once or twice a week, that seems like my only option, I was thinking of starting him on toddler formula too.

I give my son the regular vitamin D drop but I don't see how it could hurt to give him a vitamin.

We used poly-vi-sol when I was breastfeeding, rather than just vitamin D. It was what the NICU doc had recommended. We were happy with it and didn't have any problems getting them to take it down mixed in a bottle.
However, I'm pretty sure you are talking about Fer-in-sol instead. That is the iron supplement! We also used this one. I actually hate it and so do my girls. It has an awful taste and is difficult to get them to take. It also stains everything it touches so when they spit it out it ruins all their bibs, etc. If yours needs the extra iron, you will just have to suck it up though. It can constipate a bit, but you can give prune juice or something to help with that.

If you can get him to take it I'm sure it wouldn't hurt but everyone I know whose used it says it tastes horrible and they have a hard time getting their kid to take it.

I would take what the pedi says more into consideration than what WIC says personally, a lot of the WIC people here are a joke though.
