Do any of you watch it?

I personally have never heard of the show prior to seeing this video pop up on my facebook and, after seeing it, I am curious to know what everyone thinks about this political statement Jeff Daniels gives.

but wow. it's eloquent, but the way it's done i almost feel like it's staged or something.

he's right. we're not the greatest country, but i don't think we ever were. we had some great ideas, we did some great things, but we also had manifest destiny right from the get-go, massacring the native americans, we had the mcarthy era where anyone who wouldn't toe the mainstream line was reported to be a communist and unjustly incarcerated (in the golden fifties so many conservatives wish to return to), we bombed the smurf of of the japanese after the war was over, we had the bay of pigs... the laundry list of ungreat acts - of morally deplorable choices is woven into the fabric of our history, yet most of us never hear of it, never learn of it in school and we're raised on the propaganda that we've always been/will always be the greatest country.

we're powerful, that's for sure - more guns and bombs and military might than any other nation, but that doesn't make us great. we haven't resembled anything like greatness for ages....

we are not better than others, it pisses me off that we have the arrogance to teach our children that we are, rather than giving them the truth and using that as a guiding light towards what to do right THIS time around.

I think it is an HBO show. (At least that is how it is identified on Youtube's website).

I agree with you completely though. Not the greatest but, definitely one of the most powerful. I do love how Jeff Daniels throws in there all the other countries that also offer freedom. Then continues in the end to say what potential this country has.

Sadly, I don't see us (At least not in our lifetime) experiencing any of the potential. It's too common for history to repeat itself.
