Could you raise animals for food (livestock type animals)? If you've never done it, I know it's a guess at what you think you could do, lol, but what do you think?

Below is a better explanation of the choices

Option A means you think you could raise animals and slaughter/butcher them yourself

Option B means you could raise animals and send them to slaughter, but you would not personally be able to eat them

Option C means you could raise them and eat them, provided someone ELSE butchered them

Option D means you couldn't raise an animal for anyone to eat

Option E is for vegans/vegetarians (separated because I wanted to see the who eats meat but couldn't raise animals for it compared to who just wouldn't eat meat anyways)

Option F because, well, everyone needs an other.

I'm from a third world country so it's perfectly normal to me for people to raise and slaughter their own animals. I don't know how to slaughter any large animals but I can and have killed a chicken that we cleaned, cooked, and ate minutes after killing it.

ETA- I saw my ex and his brother slaughter a pig and a cow, no big deal. The smell of the blood was kind of gross but it wasn't traumatizing.

I could raise them then send them off to be butchered for us.
We don't really eat a lot of meat. We have chicken like 1-2xs a week.

I perfer for others to do my dirty work. I can't hurt animals even if they are for food. I just can't.
I think the few scenraios I could do is have chickens and eat their eggs and I can fish.

It wouldn't bother me a bit to raise and slaughter livestock myself for food. I grew up hunting and fishing, so it's really not something that would warrant a second thought from me.

I'm afraid that would be me, haha. I'd be like "no, he's my friend! We can't eat him!!!"

I wouldn't be able to butcher an animal. I just... don't have it in me.

I think I'd be okay raising them for someone else to butcher, though I'd probably have a rough time with that, too.

If I ever had livestock, it would be alpacas and/or sheep and/or goats for their fur/milk/etc, and not kill 'em. haha

I couldn't. I actually talked to a friend about this the other day. I do eat meat, but I couldn't kill something I raised. Or send it off... that's still raising it to be killed, lol.

See, we're looking at maybe getting a few acres and trying our hand at some homesteading. Obviously starting very small!

But, wtih some things, like chickens, once they're too old to lay many eggs you sort of are stuck. You can't realistically continue to own more egg layers if you keep the ones that are too old. But, I don't know if I could send them to be butchered.

I want a goat and a couple chickens is really it. But my husband said any animal I got would become my pet, so I'd never be able to actually allow any of them to be used for food. It made me wonder what others think they could do, lol

Hm, yeah. I think that's why I wouldn't go the chicken route... I don't know. Hell, I have a hard time watching movies where fake animals get hurt. Heh!

I grew up in a hunting household. Watched animals being skinned and de-gutted and deboned. But I can't do it myself. I will eat the meat, but I can't be the one that shoots it, idk why.

Me too! I've grown up in southern California, so not much in the way of hunting or farming here. Far more animal lovers.

So, I'm like "that would be so cool!" But then I think "awww, but, little cluck cluck. . . " haha I might be too soft hearted

I was raised on a small family farm where we ate some of our animals. Generally, if something was being raised for meat it was given a name like T-bone as a constant reminder not to get attached to the animal.

We always took our animals in to be processed, but I helped clean deer after my step-dad brought them home....

There are lots of farms around here... I've just.... always had an issue with animals. My mom used to have to turn off movies because I'd get too upset. haha
