Quoting The Doctor:" I wouldn't be able to butcher an animal. I just... don't have it in me. I think I'd be okay raising ... [snip!] ... too. If I ever had livestock, it would be alpacas and/or sheep and/or goats for their fur/milk/etc, and not kill 'em. haha"
See, we're looking at maybe getting a few acres and trying our hand at some homesteading. Obviously starting very small!
But, wtih some things, like chickens, once they're too old to lay many eggs you sort of are stuck. You can't realistically continue to own more egg layers if you keep the ones that are too old. But, I don't know if I could send them to be butchered.
I want a goat and a couple chickens is really it. But my husband said any animal I got would become my pet, so I'd never be able to actually allow any of them to be used for food. It made me wonder what others think they could do, lol
