Moms on welfare

Ok so ladies and ok just curious to see how you feel about this topic, let me start by saying that because your on welfare does not make you a bad person or parent. But rather my question is how you guys feel about people that are perfectly capable of getting jobs, I know the economy is bad but still they don't try and even look, have been on welfare for more than 4 years and are continuing to have kids. I know it's not right to judge a person unless your in their shoes. But just out if curiosity what's your take on it?

I don't think it's right to try for more children when you're on welfare, but there's no way to control that. Nor do I think it should be controlled, despite my own personal feelings on the matter.

People's situations can sometimes be more complicated than we ever know.

If you are on welfare then you don't need to have kids. If you can't afford to support yourself and the kids you already have then you can't afford to have more.

OP, what about the people that are on welfare but have jobs. Do you think they should try having more children? Not everyone on welfare is unemployed.

I think it's a stupid thing to do, but To each their own I guess.

It's not very responsible of the person, but none of my business and I can't do anything about it. ((shrug.))

After a certain amount of time on welfare you HAVE to get a job if you're not disabled. Yeah, some women stay on welfare by having more kids they can't afford but the fact that they are living in sub-level standards and subjecting their kids to that is strictly their problem.

I don't think it's right to have children while on welfare. Nor do I think its okay to have iphones while on welfare. haha. I think families on welfare should be required to put in a certain number of job apps just like people on unemployment. I also think that families on unemployment should be required to do volunteer work. Volunteer work can expand one's skill-set and provide networks towards getting a paying job, as well as help the community.

Hmm.

This is true, but I'm wondering what qualifies as "welfare". I see "welfare" as having all of your needs met by the state, while someone working a full time job, even at minimum wage, would not qualify for cash assistance, and things of that nature. Food stamps, medicaid... yes. But maybe we need to define what "welfare" means. Does that mean ANY assistance, or all of your finances being covered by the state?

It's not smart but they will continue to do so. For all I know both parents have jobs and work their asses off and still can't completely afford everything but accidentally get pregnant so I try not to judge them I don't know their situation.

Ive learned in life that every time you point a finger you have 3 pointing back at you.

Take it from me, stop being so judgemental and worried about others and just be thankful for what you have.

The real problem is the government making it so easy to be on welfare and so difficult and costly to retain a job.

I don't think it's my place to judge someone who may be pregnant and on welfare. That child could have been an oops baby, or that mom could have been told she only had so long to have another before her reproductive system stopped working or something, you never know. Let those without sin cast the first stone, and all that good stuff.

When I think of "welfare mom" I think of all her family's needs being paid for by the state because she doesn't have income. But "welfare" can mean any type of assistance. Someone working for minimum wage can receive some type of welfare. In NYS they would have to - you know how our prices are haha.
