re: Moms on welfare

posted 12th Feb
I think having more kids or any while on welfare or in a bad finanical situation is stupid.

And honestly I would like to know what people will do when our country runs of of money for things like food stamps and medical insurance. Will you stop having kids because you actually lost your safety net or just bring them into a life of poverty? I would never have kids and bring them into a life where I couldn't afford them, ever. But stuff happens and I believe that is what assistance should be used for as a temporary safety net to a short term problem.

It's wrong to be on welfare and TTC and popping babies out left and smurfing right. Its irresponsible and it makes you a smurffy person. My opinion on that will never change. stop having babies if you can't even feed them!

Quoting A Beautiful Disaster:" Ive learned in life that every time you point a finger you have 3 pointing back at you. Take it from ... [snip!] ... you have. The real problem is the government making it so easy to be on welfare and so difficult and costly to retain a job. "

This. This 100%

I really hate how people put their noses up at those on assistance and dont even take a moment to see what the real situation. "OMG they have an expensive phone, they are CHEATERS of the system!" But did they ask how they acquired the phone, or when? "Oh they have internet!" When internet can be dirt cheap and necessary to even find a job or go to school. The same with a phone, its like those on assistance are supposed to go to a pay phone. Sell all expensive items they ever owned. It's stupid to me and very "lets point our fingers and cast blame and not look at the real problem" kind of situation.

I think they must be pretty damn stupid because the max benefit payout starts at $220/mo for a family of 2 and tops at $791/mo for a family of 12. I couldn't make my bills for myself and my child with $791 a month, how the smurf are you supposed to provide for 12?

True, but when you consider the plethora of other programs, LOTS of people are fine with living life at the bottom instead of working their way up.
It's not just the cash portion of welfare that "welfare moms" get.

I will answer this from prespective of Canadian welfare.

Most parents or single parents here that recieve welfare also work, as a requierment to recieve welfare, you must be actively looking for work or have a job already. Whatever you earn from your job gets deducted of what welfare gives you.

I do think its wrong for none working families on welfare to be ttc and having more kids. But to those out there that both parents work or are in school to get an education who use welfare what it is intended for, to each their own really.

I know are system works differently then yours, as in we dont get food stamps and its just all cash (well direct deposit into your bank accounts) and so on.

ETA: I know lots of ppl who have been on welfare for a long long time. But they also work fulltime jobs and went to school and are doing the job they trained for, but if its in a field were not enough work or not enough pay, then they need assistance to help out once in a while, I am ok with that.

Here you can go on welfare for 1 month and not get it the next or so on.Like if you made only 600 one month they will help you the next, but in the month that they help you if your hours went up and you made 1500, the next month they dont help and so on.
But being on it long term without trying to help your situation by bettering it, then I am a little more like wtf??? lol

She is an absolute nutter. I googled her + Baby Gaga once to see if that was really all she ever posts. And it is. Oh and her BFF Jorja Blue...

I think they type "welfare" or various other terms for it in the BG search bar and then post their rather useless opinions.

More than likely. Or he/she refreshes his/her browser every ten minutes looking for one on the side bar. That wouldn't surprise me either.

I'm sure all the effort they put into posting on these threads could be better spent complaining to their senators/representatives if welfare bothers them this much.

Right. But when you're crazy you don't have to do what makes sense. Which is a shame because we could use that kind of passion directed in the right places.

Not in AZ. They just cut snap down again, housing assistance went last year, daycare assistance has a 3yr waiting list,

I just got off all assistance in October, I was receiving everything available and still had to work 60+ hrs a week to fill in the gaps. At least HERE I don't know how anyone can survive just on state aid.

You are bitching about people getting cereal and meat on food stamps? A birthday cake, oh wow, a once a year occurrence. I HIGHLY doubt you see a great deal of people buying cakes on food stamps. Seriously. And if you bitch about them getting cereal and meat... what are they supposed to eat? Dirt? The scraps thrown out from the deli? Expired boxes of cereal?
