asperger's Q?

(I m sorry for posting so much today)

I have a question about asperger (autism)
my brother (25) who is a very shy person has been depressed for the last 4+ years ( basically since loosing his job)

he hasnt been able to find a new job since then. lost his flat because he couldn't pay for it, moved back at my dads and doesnt go out (ever) his social life consist of being on his computer and playing online games. he lost contact with all his friends , feels even more depressed about the all situation but doesnt try to get back in touch with them. he has become a very angry man always arguing with my father to the point where I ve heard he almost hit him.

anyway apparently one of my fathers friend told my father that my brother need special help/care because he is sure my brother has asperger s.

does it sounds to you like it could be a possibility ?

Not really, he sounds like a depressed guy that just lost his job.

None of that sounds like Aspergers considering he's only acting like this since losing his job.

thats what I told my father, but he says my brother has always been different. I personally think he s always been shy and introvert and now is very depressed.

Sounds like he is depressed because he lost his job.

None of what you described sounds like Aspergers at all.

I agree with the other ladies... it doesn't sound like aspergers.... more like the guys down in the dumps over losing his job!

It is really hard for some people to wrap their head around the fact that men get depressed. It's seen as something only women suffer from. Which is so sad, and very wrong.

I agree. My boyfriend has horrible depression and before he was medicated, he had a problem with self harm. His dad was convinced it was something that YouTube had created (he isn't a very smart man) and him mom just saw it as him trying to guilt trip her into something.... yeah.. his family is a bunch of butt holes.

I don't understand why people cannot wrap their head around that. Depression isn't gender specific.

Look up Aspergers and see if you recognize any of the symptoms from your brothers youths, some persons w/Aspergers have very subtle ''differances'' and others are very severe. My son will be 12 next week and has aspergers. Depression and anger issues can be very prevelant in people w/ASD.
Whether or not the depression is part of another disorder or just a mental illness in itself, your brother needs help.

Yeah that is a very stupid thing for people to assume, my dh had horrible depression since he was very young and in return he was very shy and not confident at all. It's just gotten better in the past two years and he's doing much better but it used be so hard at times.
