Our boy is getting neutered. Advice?

posted 12th Feb
Any Advice? my younger cat maulers will be 3 and 4 at the time, so I plan on locking him in my room for a day or two.

The vet recommends the cone collar for him. Did you use one? When I was little and the family cat got his balls chopped he never had one and no complication. Fluff is an indoor cat and has never been out once, we also live in the Country so he has never even worn a collar. lol. I bought him a collar and cute tag last night and he flipped his smurf with it on. I don't think he will handle a cone very well at all. I just want him to be comfortable

So any advice is appreciated. I've never been through this before.

I am also preparing for a bitching as he is 10 pounds at 7 months. lol. When I took him for his shots and worming as a baby the vet said his feet were huge so expect a big guy...gah! I hope I get the same lady.

We had a boy and a girl but when we got them fixed neither had a cone. The boy was happier and in less pain than the girl. Just make sure they stay dry.

I remember when our male cat got done, he was pissed as smurf for a few days. I didnt even attempt to go near him. He just stayed in the corner of my room. Its important he wears the cone, it will keep him from licking the wound and opening it up. He will have it on when you pick him up from the vet (he should anyways)

Just leave him be, let him heal and soon enough he will be back to normal.

Awww! I know it's good for him, but I almost feel like I am abusing him. I hope he will forgive me. lol

Ya I think, it was years ago. He was older when it gone too. I think a kitten will heal faster. We only got him fixed cause he started to spray, it was HORRIBLE!!

There is no reason for him to wear a cone collar unless he starts messing with the incision site, which cats usually do not. If he freaks out over the cone, it would for sure be better if he didn't wear it at all because flopping around trying to get it off is probably worse in the long run. Neuters are actually a really really easy procedure with a very small incision so honestly its not that big of a deal. If you are worried try to keep him from jumping high onto things when he comes home, but honestly if he wants to it isn't that big of a deal either. Don't feed him the night before the surgery because anesthetic will make your cat throw up. I have volunteered at many spay and neuter clinics.

when i got my cat neutered, he didn't come home with a cone. his incision healed nicely. you jtsu have to watch for him licking on it too much.

We got our kitten done on Saturday and he's been completely fine since Sunday morning! He was just loopy from the drugs Saturday (it was hilarious) and that's it. No cone & he hasn't bothered the spot at all and he's been running and jumping like nothing happened.
