Nexplanon Issues???

posted 12th Feb
I had Nexplanon implanted on 13 Nov 2012 and my period has been really irregular ever since. After getting it implanted, it was 5 weeks til I got a period and it lasted 2 weeks. My period last month came on time but lasted about 9 days. Now just 2 weeks later, I've started bleeding again even tho I'm not supposed to get my period for 2 more weeks. I'm starting to think I should make an appointment to get this taken out and just go back on Yasmin. I was on that for 3 years before my daughter and it worked perfectly. I only got the Nexplanon because I was breastfeeding at the time (I am no longer breastfeeding) and I wanted something that I didn't have to think about taking every day. I would rather worry about taking a pill every day, then not know when I'm going to have my period or how long it is going to last. Have any of you ladies had Nexplanon? What was your experience with it? And what do you think I should do in my situation? Thanks in advance for the advice.

I don't have Nexplanon I have Implanon and I got mine inserted at 8 weeks post part. I was and still am EBF and never had a post part period. Here it is 6 months later and still no bleeding. My ob told me that I probably wont bleed again even after I stop BF because when I was on Depo I never had a period. He did tell me that if I had bleeding after insertion that he could give me birth control to take and regulate the bleeding but he wouldn't remove the implanon just because of irregular bleeding. Good luck momma

It's recommended to wait 3 months for the hormones to level out. With nexplanon it's really rare for your to continue to have a normal cycle. Some go without a period completely, some get periods occasionally, and some get it basically all the time. You've had yours for 3 months now, so if I were you I would take it out.

I had nexplanon before. Had it in from may 2011-august 2012. First 10 months I had no period at a, then they started to come more frquently. I felt really weird on it, and I didn't really notice that until I had it taken out. There were so many things that didn't work for me. I've decided to just not be on birth control at all. Condoms and NFP will be my thing ;)

Yeah I think I'm definitely going to get it taken out. I got it implanted because I was breastfeeding at the time and I thought it would be really convenient to not have to worry about taking a pill every day. But having issues like this with my period is way more inconvenient then having to remember to take a pill everyday. Plus I have been having pretty bad mood swings. I had to be put on Zoloft because I was having anxiety attacks 2-3 times a weeks. I thought it was because I'm no longer working full time and just had too much spare time, so I was worrying about everything. But now I'm starting to wonder if it's the Nexplanon making me that way.

Wow...your doctor sounds like an ass if he wouldn't remove it because you had irregular bleeding. Plus having to take another kind of birth control while having Implanon/Nexplanon seems stupid to me. I don't want to have to be on 2 different kinds of birth control just to have a normal period. I have a really good doctor tho, so I'm sure she'll agree that I should have it taken out. If she doesn't, then I'll find a doctor that will.

Wow...I don't see how you kept it for 6 months with bleeding everyday. I could not have done that.
