My dad's nickname all through highschool and college was Hawk. Most of his friends STILL call him it to this day.   I think its kinda interesting and makes me wonder how they came up with the name.

Yea that is a weird name, but thats what some people are trying to go for I guess. I wouldnt name my child anything like that, still trying to find a name.

Its kinda a cool nickname but not as a real name.

Id rather see it short for something like Hawthorne.

95% cure I'm naming my son Hawker. It's my maiden name and I'm pretty fond of it. We'll probably call him Hawk most of the time- and yes, I dealt with a few childhood friends teaching me about phlem (but they also teased me about my middle name, which was a respectable Elizabeth). Hawker is actually a British occupational name (like Smith or Potter) and while it may be strange to you- the name itself means the world to me because it represents my Father and brothers and the heritage of my family.
Anyways, just thought you might want to know why in the world someone would do that to their child. =)

Still doesn't mean they should.

I was not arguing that everyone should- merely trying to explain why someone MIGHT. Sometimes things that seem crazy appear less so when you can see it from someone else's perspective. And, thank goodness we all get to decide for ourselves what to name our kiddos, based on our own experiences and preferences.
