Ultrasound question

posted 11th Feb
I had an ultrasound done at the ER. I was suppose to be 9 weeks 1 day and when they did the u/s, they said I was 8 weeks 1 day. I went to a women's pregnancy clinic the follow week to get another u/s(I already had an appointment, it was scheduled later because I went there to get a positive pregnancy test and they scheduled me a free one). Anyway, I measured correctly. Well today I went in for my first OB appointment and they are going off my lmp which would put me at 12.4 instead of 11.4. Here's my question. My OB told me not to go off of that ultrasound at the women's clinic because they aren't certified radiology something. I forget what she said because I was half ass paying attention  What does that mean? I thought every ultrasound tech was certified in radiology, whatever they call it. I am scheduled an anatomy scan on March 7th. I'm afraid they baby won't be big enough to see whatever they need to see and wont give me correct information, including the gender(which is just a bonus I know). Am I just thinking too much into this? Sorry this is so long ladies. TIA

My lmp was 12 November but I got told to go off my ultrasound which puts me back 8 days. Lmp relies on your cycle bring 28 days and you ovulating in the middle.

If this is your 12 week scan you can have it between 11 weeks 3 days and 13 weeks. Book in for when you are 13 weeks then if you are only 12 weeks its no big deal. This is what I did yesterday and I was only 11 weeks 6 days not 13 weeks

My bestfriends situation was very similar to yours. She was told 9 weeks at those places and then her OB placed her at 12.
She measured just that from then on.

I would go by the ultrasound from the ER. Honestly, not all US techs are board certified. But they should be at the ER. I'm not really sure if you'd be able to tell at your anatomy scan...it might be too early.

I know. I'll only be 15 weeks   My insurance only pays for 1 too. I might have to get another one done just to be safe. I wish they would've just listened to me and scheduled it later but they wouldn't

They did that to me with my first pregnancy. They scheduled it when they thought I'd be 16 weeks, but really I was only nearly 15 and they didn't even look. The only reason they gave me another is because I had a placenta previa and they needed to make sure it moved.

I don't understand why they're scheduling it so early. It's better to scan closer to 20 weeks anyways...not just for the sex but for the actual info they need for the anatomy scan, too..

I was the same way with this pregnancy! I kept being told I was measuring up to two weeks behind what I was "supposed to be". I had multiple ultrasounds in the beginning then at about 20 weeks I finally started measuring on track. And am now measuring ahead!

Just go off the earliest ultrasound since its probably the most accurate. Try to relax I am sure all is fine mama!

HMMMMM.... When they told you 8w1d, did they base that off of opinion or a measurement? As an ultrasound tech myself, I would go off of an ultrasound over LMP any day. Has the Dr. done an ultrasound before claiming that someone else doesn't know what they are doing? Funny.... As long as you are past 18 weeks, they should be able to do the anatomy scan. Gender you can actually see as early as 12 weeks (you can go to an elective place like mine at 14 weeks) but Dr.s generally don't know how to tell gender that early even though they are Dr.s

At 12 weeks it is a guess. The nub theory hasn't been 100% proven

I had a scan done at 14w6d and honestly we were able to see way more than my 20wk us with my first child. He just sat there transverse with his back to us the whole time. My 15wk US this go around she did a full anatomy scan and we even got to find out the gender.

Most of the time we can see parts, not just a nub  with girls you can get the separation between labia and clitoris and with boys you can see testicles along with the penis  depends on the equipment used, mom's anatomy, placental position, how much time you can spend looking and obviously baby's cooperation! At 12 weeks, I can be 100% sure about 65-70% of the time and at 14 weeks, I can be 100% sure 99% of the time. At my facility, we don't guess and bring people back for free if we can't tell for sure.

I've never heard of that before in my life lol. One of my best friends has been a tech for over 20 years and she said there isn't much difference between male and female parts at 12 weeks. They only start to differentiate around 14 weeks
