Forward facing car seats.

posted 9th Jun
Since I am a mother of a brand new toddler, I thought this thread should be posted here.

I am researching forward facing/convertible seats. I am at a loss as to which one to get. The go anywhere from $40.00-$300 bucks. The one's that I am most interested in are

and
http://www.amazon.com/Evenflo-Triumph-Convertible-Car-Seat/dp/B000MA20PG

but I am NOT dead set on these. Does anyone have these? What others would you recommend?

I really wanted the evenflo... but couldn't get it here yet when I needed it, I ended up getting the alpha omega . I'd go for the even flo if I could

Renee, I've heard GREAT things about the Roundabout and how it's worth every penny. I have the Alpha Omega, it's nice but bulky. I would have bought the Roundabout if they sold them here or if any place online would ship to APO. I say Roundabout!

Roundabout! Those are great and not as bulky as I thought.

I agree with the roundabout.

with Eli and Ty I got Evenflo ones and they were pretty good too. I guess it is dependent on the features you are looking for. like comfort vs. size

I wanted the Evenflo one because it looked comfy so a friend of mine let me use hers. Turned out it was way to wide in our vehicle and they dont look so comfy when the kid gets bigger or atleast thats how it was for us. I heard good things about Britax carseats but never had one. Personally I prefer then ones that also turn into a belt positioning booster so we got the CoscoSummit for $80. We love it.

Those are all great! Very safe seats. Have you researched the benefits of rear-facing longer? It's 4-5 times safer to do so until your child reaches the limits of the seat.

There are other good links at the bottom of this article. I like the Radian, personally, it rear faces to 35 pounds and the harnesses to 65 or 80 lbs forward-facing depending on model. (they both have the same shell and harness height). And it's not really wide like some of the Britax seats.
ETA link to a crash test video showing the difference in a crash:

That is something to think about. My infant seat goes up to 35lbs but he is getting too tall for it.

You can go to the website I posted's forums, the ladies there are really knowledgeable and can give you a recommendation based on your baby's height, weight, age and everything.

I personally have an Eddie Bauer but have heard great things about the Evenflo ones. All of the reviews I read about the Roundabout said that Britax ones don't recline very well, and aren't really worth the money.
