Extended formula use?

posted 11th Feb
I was unable to EBF like i wanted, eventually she became a formula baby (Pumped till about 4 -5 months ish) She takes gentalease. Today i bought the big tub of the toddler gentalease. Currently i am with my mother untill i can get through school Her and my step fathers diet isnt the best. My kid eats whatever we eat, she gets healthy snacks and we use pediasure on busy on the go days where she wont get the best of meals. I do not feel comfortable removing her from formula compleatly yet becasue i know this house doesnt make the best choices for food. She is pretty much off the bottle 'sept for the one she gets at night right before bed. Lots of water, juice and some whole milk durring the day.. she normaly gets about 20 oz of toddler formula a day. Give or take. Ive read alot that says she should be off all of that and only drinking cows milk and just eating table food. I just want to provide the best and i feel like giving her the pediasure and toddler formula is the only peace of mind i have to give her what she needs. Any thoughts or suggestions?b Pros and Cons of extended formula use?

Instead of spending your money on expensive toddler formula and pediasure, why not buy her healthier snacks and things?

I dont make a whole lot, i only work weekends, wich is enough for gas, diapers and the few small things i can pick up for her (Wic covers the pediasure,) I pay for the formula myself and the snacks. Most of my money im trying to save to keep my car running and hopefully Move out..

The main concern I would imagine would be her teeth. Extended formula feeding can really damage their teeth. Over the course of my daughters second year (I had the same concerns as you) I just slowly watered down her bottle. Every two weeks or so I would leave out a scoop, pause if we needed more time or if she were sick, teething etc... That gave her time to adjust and me time to make step by step alterations in her diet and get used to cooking balanced toddler friendly meals. After a while the bottle was just water, and I still let her have it whenever she needed that comfort. She still needed that comfort at night, but I didn't have to worry about the tooth decay long term use of bottles at night cause anymore. Easy peasy! Hope you guys find a system that works for you.

But the big things of formula are expensive. Use that to buy fruits and veggies, hell even peanut butter. It can go a long way

She doesnt take the bottle to bed w her btw. She only takes it right before bed and i lay her down after she passes out. She uses a straw cup through the day so i wasnt to worried about her teeth. We brush them three times a day as well..

Stop buying formula and buy healthy food instead. Cut out the juice that isnt healthy and its not needed. Have her take a daily vitamin. She needs food not just a liquid diet.

Re read what i posted. My child eats table food. But my family makes poor choices in food.. Do they make a vitamin for a child under two? Not one ive seen yet.

I'd buy healthy food with the formula money. Doesn't WIC give you produce checks?

Kids don't eat much. The money you spend on formula IMO can be used better elsewhere.

Cut back on the juice. That will cut costs they don't need a bunch of juice. Get some whole milk and some real good.

A bag of carrots is like 2 bucks. Steam them and instant finger food.

Good food is cheaper than formula. That just sounds lazy.

Wic hasnt given me produce checks since they cut me off of my share of the wic after she turned six months old.. I think it varies state to state.
