Cows milk to 5 month old

posted 11th Feb
I do not have a 5 month old so this isn't regarding me. And I've already seen 1 link, but more would be nice. A girl on my fb said her pedi told her to put er 5 month old on cows milk because he spits up so much...

Wtf?? Do doctors actually tell people that? That's not even healthy is it!!?!

I can't imagine any legitimate doctor would recommend that.

Her pedi is a quack! At 5 months, their digestive systems aren't fully ready for cows milk. Not to mention it can cause a severe allergic reaction. Smfh

That doesn't sound right at all.

She said her and her doctor agree that it's best for HER son. She made sure to capitalize it... I messaged her so I didn't publicly bring it up and she's usually very nice.

She said her doctor and her have tried 7 different formulas and this is so far te only thing that has so far worked...

This can physically harm him though, right? Like nutritionally and developmentally?

First they would NORMALLY, change them to a reflux formula, then tell you to try cereal in the bottle, finally medication. If none of that works they will send them to a Pediatric Gastroenterologist. My daughter had severe acid reflux. So no they wouldn't tell her to give the baby cow's milk IMO.

Yeah, they're not ready for anything but breastmilk/formula. This doctor (if he exists) is probably old-fashioned and set in his ways. He probably lives by the whole "back in my day, we did it this way and our kids survived" motto.

I've actually heard of that happening when formula doesnt work anymore. The baby was 8 months old though. Once they switched the baby didnt even spit up anymore.

Yes, and it can predispose the child to allergies later in life.

Is it possible she meant goats milk? Babies have an easier time processing it, I've heard of some rare cases of it being used for supplementation. But cows milk at 5 months just can't be right at all.
