Fever...

posted 11th Feb
My daughter is 4 and started getting a cold about 2 days ago, coughing, sneezing runny nose and sore throat. Today's she's been laying down and sleeping off and on all day. She never gets sick so I've never had to treat her for a fever. I have a Mobi digital forehead and ear thermometer I took her temp on her forehead and it read 101 and the ear read 104! It says in the instructions an ear reading is more accurate since its internal. I've been giving her children's Tylenol fever reducer.

I feel complelty dumb, but should I be taking her in the doctor with her fever reading 104?

I'm not sure how "good" that thermometer is, but all the doctors that I have talked to about thermometers (I've talked to quite a few, since DS has to go to the ER if he runs a fever) say not to use the forehead/ear ones unless they are of GOOD quality. I would try to give her some Motrin, instead of Tylenol (it works better for fevers, for us anyway), try to let her soak in a warm tub for a while and have her drink water. You can even try a cool wash cloth on her forehead and back of her neck.

I'm not sure how good it is either, my sister who is a nurse bought it for me just yesterday at my baby shower, so I figured it might be a good one. I'll have to try Motrin, I've never used it and have always used Tylenol. I just put a cool wash rag on her forehead. I feel so bad for her, she rarely gets sick. It's just so unusual to see her laying around all day, but I am glad she is cause I know she needs the rest!

I have always heard anything over 103 means its time to go to the hospital. I would give her medicine and a bath to cool her down than retake her temp. If its still high take her to doc asap. <3 Hope she feels better.
