That's the thing - she just wanted me and the school to deal with it. My mom and I have a decent relationship now but she was not that maternal when I was growing up, to say the least. I guess she was hellbent on me taking care of myself and being independent so she would have to take care of me as little as possible for as short as possible. It worked - I left home at 16.

While I was a teenager, my mom couldn't stress enough how I could always go to her to talk to if I needed anything etc.. The sad thing about that is she would always jump to the worse of conclusions and then spread my business all around our family.

Her relationships seemed to be more important than being a parent. I left as soon as I hit 18. I am actually more close with my dad then I am my mom.

My mom wasn't very maternal either. No hugs, kisses, cuddles. We just recently started saying "love you" before get off the phone. She will admit she wasn't a good mom but I wish things would have been different. I was always jealous of my friends relationships with their mothers. I don't tell my mom anything, we don't talk about my relationship with SO ever, it just feels weird. My dad and I were pretty close when I was growing up, he took me shopping, helped pick out my prom dress, discussed boys with me... etc. I'm glad I'm closer with her now though.

My mom's boyfriends were more important too. She told me to move out so her boyfriend could move in. He wanted nothing to do with my brother and I and she did everything she could to accommodate him. She would go stay with him and leave me alone in the house for days. I took the bus to school and work, I cooked my own dinner, I took care of the dogs. And then when I wanted to go party she would call me up from his house and tell me I couldn't go. I was like ummm no, I'm going anyway. Not like you're going to try and stop me lol.

My father hasn't been in the picture since I was 10. He, too, left us for a significant other.

Now we are much closer. I talk to her mostly about the kids. She lets me come and stay with her sometimes. She'll help me out if I'm strapped for cash. But honestly if I didn't have kids I don't think we'd even talk at all by this point.

Wow I would feel so bad for my kid. If another kid is sleeping, they're just going to have to wake their butt up! My child sitting in pee at school would definantly be the priority before another kid being a bit cranky from an interrupted nap.

It was weird the way my parents worked when I was a teenager. They started having their problems when I was 14 but they didn't finally split until I was close to 17. I was there for it all. The cheating, the fighting, the boyfriends and the girlfriends.

When they were apart it was a popularity contest so I could do whatever I wanted as long as I loved one parent more than the other.   When they would get back together they were suddenly responsible. I wasn't allowed to party, smoke, drink.. nothing.

Ugh, that totally sucks! My parents' divorce was messy - my father cheated on my mother with her brother's wife[my aunt] so our whole family got broken apart. It was a nightmare for like 3 years, then it calmed down. Luckily, since neither my mom nor my dad were around when I was a teen they would try to be strict over the phone from their SOs' houses and I would just press the END button, get on the bus and go party, problem solved lol.

My dad I guess ALWAYS cheated on my mom. But, when he was finally caught, it was my 2 older sisters who walked in on him and my mom's sister. I can't even remember how old I was but I had to be around 13 years old.

It was during my other Aunts wedding. We had gotten 2 hotel rooms so we could watch my newly married aunt's children while her and her husband did there own thing.

They were adjoining rooms, and my sister walked in on my butt naked (Other Aunt) on top of my dad. The guy she was with I guess was in the bathroom getting ready or something like that... Not sure where my mom was. I repressed a lot of those memories.

I finally didn't start talking to my Aunt again until like 2 years ago.

Holy smurf! I'm glad I'm not the only one with soap opera/Jerry Springer type memories lol. That's horrible, especially for your sister who walked in on them!

I wish I could avoid my ex-aunt but unfortunately she is now my stepmother. My father didn't leave us because he didn't want us....he left us because SHE made him choose his children or her and he chose her. My brother was 14 and I was 9. I wasn't even invited to their wedding 4 years later but my father changed his mind when my brother, who was the best man, refused to go if I wasn't going. I just got wasted with my cousin and stole the fancy candles off the tables lol.

I probably would have refused to go to the wedding. Though had I gone, I probably would have done the same thing you did.

I read it and I think I commented on it too with some wacky tidbit about my family lol. My family is nuts on both sides! I don't know much about my dad's side. I'm so much closer to everyone on my mom's side because it's so small. Small and crazy hahaha.

I didn't want to go but my brother pleaded with me. I knew my grandma was going to be there and I didn't want to cause drama for her - my step-witch did enough of that.
