What would you do? -cars eat question
posted 11th Feb
So I was presented with a problem yesterday and I'm just curious how others would/have handled it. My son broke his collar bone, normally they heal on their own but you still need to go to the hospital to make sure everything is going to heal right. So, going to the hospital has to happen but that means that my 22 mos old has to get there somehow, to put him in his cars eat at the right tightness has him screaming in pain, to loosen it is not safe, to not have him in it is not safe.....what would you do?

Loosen it a little and drive on roads with slower speeds and drive extremely carefully. Loose is still safer than no seat!

Me id loosen it till u take him get him some pain meds and they will most likely make him keep his arm in a sling that wraps around there waste.

Yup! Once they get the treatment, take the kid home and don't drive unless you absolutely have to because its hard on the collar bone healing and a PITA for buckling.
Ask doc about the carseat and the sling and how they recommend. Or call the carseat manufacturer too.

When Lucas sliced his finger open he rode in my lap to the hospital. The tip of his finger was barely attached and he was bleeding a lot, I didn't want to risk him fully detaching it ect.
In your case I'd do the same. Poor guy, how did he break it?

You didn't strap him for a finger slice? No way!
If have strapped him and sat in the back beside him holding his hand and applying pressure. I've had to do this myself when my son burned his hands badly (he ran up and used the hot grill as his "safe" in a game of tag) because him touching ANYTHING made him scream---but you'd better believe he was still in his seat properly.

Glad child safety is a joke to you. I'm really glad that sliced finger didn't turn into a snapped neck, broken ribs/limbs, or an ejection from the car and that you all arrived safely, but its not a gamble I'd be willing to make.

yeah you're talking to a woman who kept her 10year old, 80lb child in a booster way before it was the thing to do so (my daughter is almost 15 now) and whose almost 2yr old still rfs and whose 11yr old son still sits in a booster. I hardly
find child safety a laughing matter, what I do find laughable is your condescending attitude.

When I couldn't get him into his seat, I just about panicked cuz I'm so strict about everything being exactly the safest way possible to transport my kids. I really had to talk my self into coping with the idea of loosening the straps but I did because it was safer than no seat and safer than not going at all. I couldn't believe how hard of a time I had making it ok in my head to loosen them, lol

They created a cuffed sling for him ( he's too small for all the regular ones they had ) and they said to give him Ibuprophen, he's pretty sore but generally doing well...and mighty pissed that when I go take my other kids somewhere in the car that he can't come, poor kiddo

when he gets better you should make a special day just for him and take him somewhere he really wants to go
