pursue visitation? are you serious? The only people who should be around a child are the people who want to be.

They are not forced too see the child, not even a court order can not force that. What I am saying is that establishing custody and visitation rights can only help you, it looks favorable to the court if you take the steps to do so AND it protects you and your child. What if someday dad decides he wants to pursue custody? Guess what if he files first so it looks to the court like you've been with holding rights from him. Or even worse dad wants a visit and you think great he can try it out, spend some time with his child. and somehow this couple hour visit turns into him not returning the child. Guess what? Many times the police will not intervene unless you have a custody agreement in place! This happened to a friend of mine, her lo was gone for 3weeks, no calls nothing.   and the father was not even on the BC, then when she got him back dad still got joint custody of him after not being around for 3.5yrs.
