ADHD

If your child has ADHD what are some of the signs/symptoms they first showed and and what age did they start? Is there a minimum age they can be diagnosed?

Lack of eye focus was a huge one. I also have always had to get right in her face, and say her name to get her attention. And she hyper focuses....usually on the television.

I think the youngest they like to diagnose usually is around 5. It can be diagnosed sooner.
We just decided to take my daughter to a psychologist, because it started affecting her schooling. She's almost 8

My son was diagnosed with ADHD this year and he is 6 years old. We started the diagnosis when he was in kindergarten but it took awhile to get everyone on board to get him tested and agree something needed to be done. He started showing signs when he started school and actually now that I think about it some as early as 4 years old. He has never been a child to focus on anything and has always been very difficult to communicate with and get his attention. He will focus on one thing and one thing only and if you try and get in the way he has major issues and it is hard to get him back on track for the day. When he is not going through counseling and on his medication it is impossible to have a happy healthy day with him and it was becoming to where I could not even stand my own child. That is when I knew we needed help.

i don't have a child with ADHD, but my friend does, and she got him diagnosed at 2 almost 3...but he has autism too, so he seen a dr real soon. idk if that makes a difference.
personally i wouldn't go for a diagnosis unless it was interfering with schooling, but that's just me.

Thanks for your response.
Im starting to get really worried that my daughter has it. She will be 4 in May. Probably since she turned 1 we have had issues but instead of getting better over time they have only escalated...
She has never ever been able to sit still, is constantly yelling everything, she stares right through me while getting in trouble, she definitely knows right from wrong but will always do the opposite in literally every situation and she refuses every single "fun" activity we try to occupy her with (painting, going on an outing ect..).
The other day she said "I know I SHOULD be good, and I TRY real hard but its too hard mom... I WISH I could just do it" It broke my heart... its seriously like she tries but just simply can not follow rules...

My son who is now 13 has ADHD and odd. He was diagnosed at three yrs and we started treatment after he was in kindergarten. His ADHD is quite sever even with medication. The main thing with him is not sitting still...ever. Also huge lack of self control. Destructive to everything such as toys appliances and furniture. He was never able to sit and watch a tv show for more then five minutes.

I am getting to this point. Every day is becoming so much more of a struggle just to coexist ... my doctor says they wont start testing until she has been in school for a full year, which she doesn't even start until September. They has got to be something else we can do...

My sons started being noticeable around the time he started school. He was extremely immature and impulsive. He was always distracted, couldn't sit still long enough to even eat a full meal, talking to him was difficult because 2 seconds into the conversation he's staring off not paying attention. He has trouble waiting his turn to talk. While in the process of being diagnosed he was tested for special ed, they said he had an iq of 77 (70 is considered mentslly disabled, 100 is average). He was diagnosed at 7, he's 11 now, on meds and doing great. Oh and he was tested again while on meds, iq of 142 and when tested for the gifted program he got the highest scores across the board in the entire district all year and the highest the school had ever seen.
