BFing opinion

posted 11th Feb
I bFed both of my children so far and plan to my next also.   My sister doesn't understand my obsession with doing so. My DD was BFed for a little over a year, my DS only for 3 months (he was my first and i was dumb).
She doesn't understand how i believe 3 months of BFing did him any good.
Do you believe BFing even for a few months does anything good for your child's health in the long run?

Absolutely! I didn't BF my older two kids, but I did with my third for a short time(about 6 to 8 weeks, I think). She hasn't had anything more than a cold in her entire life and she's 5 now. I fully believe that the BF is what did it, particularly in her first year of life.

Yes.

The first 6 weeks, in theory, is the most crucial, though IMO... the longer the better. Even if that's 3 months, or a year +.

I think so yes! I didn't BF my older two but I did my youngest for right at a year (he is weaning himself right now or we would still be BF) and he has barely ever been sick. The most he has had is a little cold.

Yes Im positive it does help. I bf for 8 weeks and would have continued but had to go back to work and where I worked there was no place for me to pump and after a week of working 10 hour days 5 days a week my supply diminished drastically. But I believe even those few weeks helped dd a big deal. Going to do it with the next one too.

DD was never sick, I BFed her for 8 months.

Until this winter (she's almost 4) because of the dreaded preschool. Constantly sick, because the other kids are constantly sick. haha

breastfeeding, no matter how long, benefits the child. obviously the longer you can do it, the better because breast milk is specifically for them it has everything they need. some women cant breast feed as long as they want to, otherwise im sure more women would.

i breastfed my son for 3 months, but couldnt do it longer than that because i dried up. even though he was eating a lot and very often, my body slowed down on producing milk and i had to start giving him formula as well and once he stopped breast feeding constantly my body just stopped producing at all. it sucked, i wish i could have longer.

See i agree with all of this. My son was never sick until he started school.

DS1 and DD go to daycare and bring all sorts of stuff home with them. And even with me getting sick, DS2 would barely get a little cold. It may just be a coincidence, but I truly believe it's cause of the BFing (or I like to tell myself that anyways   )

I swear by it.

Even when I got sick DD didn't get sick when I was BFing her. She had a cold like... once.

And the first time she ever threw up she was almost 2. haha

I wish I would have known how awesome it was with DS1 and DD. DS1 was on breathing treatments cause he had bronchitis and crap before he was 1, and then he had like, 3 ear infections before his first birthday. DD wasn't too bad, but she had 2 ear infections and a lot of nasty colds (not just the little ones that DS2 gets)

This one will be another booby baby. And hopefully longer than a year. It's killing me that DS2 is weaning himself

I agree, BF even for a short time is better than none at all. I didnt BF with DD1 at all and i did for a short time with DD2 and i think there was a considereable difference in the behaviors of both as newborns.

Oh, man. I'm TERRIFIED this time, because I want to BF at least as long with this one as I did DD, but preferably at least a year.... but I couldn't pump for smurf last time, and didn't need to. This time I'm going to be working full time... I'm so scared I won't be able to EBF.

I think you've mentioned that before. Hopefully, it will be different this time and you will be able to pump enough!
