People frown upon that idea but a GED isn't a bad thing like everyone seems to think it is. Honestly, that's what I would do.

It actually worked out really well for her. She was earning enough to support herself and her son within those 4 years, instead of graduating highschool in another 2 and then going to college. The college classes were paid for by the state too.

It still meant she was away from her son a big chunk of the day, but they managed.

It's not a bad plan at all. People think that HS diploma is so much more important than it really is.

You look nice with a natural hair color. I didn't recognize you at first. Looks really pretty on you.

Won't allow what? You to drop out? They really don't have a say in that, you're at the legal age.

It wasn't a matter of the school allowing it. The GED program was through the college. As long as you are old enough to legally drop out of the school (16), then you need to look into local colleges with GED programs and see what they require. It does mean though that you'd miss out on stuff like prom and walking down the isle on graduation day.

Well college isn't as bad. You have breaks and you have shorter days and longer days. You can make your own schedule.

A lot of places now it's 18 to drop out legally. My SIL wasn't able to until last month.

How won't they allow it?

You simply don't show up and tell them you're not going back. Then you go to your local college and enroll.

The problem wasn't the classes. The first 2 years were flexible, but the nursing program wasn't. They have to do rounds at hospitals and stuff for so many hours per day. Plus there were certain classes she *had* to take in order to be part of the program at certain times. It was a very competitive program, so she had to keep up or she was out.

Honestly though, that stuff is trivial. Especially when you have a child to look out for and a future to plan with someone depending on you already.

And a lot of them offer accredited online classes too, so for most degrees you can take most, if not all, from home.
