Sleep training toddler

posted 10th Feb
I guess that's what it's called
Today at MILs DS(2 yrs) was getting tired and needed a nap before our dinner reservation
So she laid him down and everytime he got up she just brought him back to bed.it took almost 2 hours but he eventually gave in and went to sleep. He was pissed and cried alot but it did work
I plan on doing the same thing at home, starting at nap time then bed time once he gets the hang of it

If you used this method how long did it take before they got the idea of when you lay them in bed theyre supposed to go to sleep?

I started with my son at 9.5 months. It took about a week and a half and now I just give him his milk and then come back with his water and binki and he's good. Nap time is a little harder. We're still having issues there.

He goes to sleep on his own but not on a schedule
Just whenever he's tired he lays on the couch and falls asleep

Hopefully doing this will not only get him on a schedule but get him sleeping in his own bed at night

about an hour n half before bedtme. we read a book and then i always put in the same movie each night, something quiet and relaxing for them usually care bears, plus I turn off all the lights. They don't usually fall asleep but once the movie is over I say its bed time and usually I don't have a problem anymore. My 3.5 year old is usually ready to go to bed. sometimes my 2.5 year old still doesn't want to sleep so I let her lay with me for about an hour in my bed and she falls asleep. She doesn't always do that, but she loves to cuddle. I know if they sleep past a certain time at night like if they have a late nap then they could very well be up all night long.

Yeah
Usually we have dinner and watch tv in the livingroom while he plays, then lay down in bed and watch a movie then lights out and he falls asleep
I'm ok with it for now but I'd like him to be in his own bed before I hes 3

We don't have a "schedule" we have a routine. We don't do schedules with him, just doesn't work for us. We eat between 7 and 8, he's almost always finished by 8:15 unless it's been a late night. Then he goes right from his chair to bath, then bath into pjs, hugs and kisses, warm milk and right to bed. We play his musical light mobile for him, and when he starts to fuss, I go in, give him his cup and walk out. Usually after that point no I do nothing because he puts himself to sleep. He's never up past 10 though. Like tonight's a late night and he's going to bed at 9:30.

We have a schedule and a routine at our house. We have a routine of dinner, bath, pjs, book, bed. It's the same every night. And the time is exactly the same every night. My youngest is in bath by 7 and bed by 7:30. My oldest is in the shower at 7:30 and bed by 8:00. 8:30 on a weekend if she is acting nicely. And both girls go right to sleep. Very little fighting about getting ready for bed and once I lay them down and leave they are out . The baby might put up a bit of a fight when she's teething but it lasts all of 5 minus before she gives up. It works for us.
