Diaper rash

posted 10th Feb
My almost 3 year old has had a diaper rash for a while now. We've been using nystatin and A&D over that and it clears it up until he poops again. Then the rash is back full force. He finished another round of antibiotics on Monday so I don't think he's sick. We just started probiotics because of all the antibiotics he's had in his life but they haven't had enough time to help yet.

Any other ideas?

His poop is normal color, but greasy and smelly.

I used clotrimazole cream on maks the other day, cleared it up by end of day... And every diaper change i let him sit in tub and rinsed him clean, instead of whiping him, then let him air dry, then put cream left him on tummy on towel for a while his butt was so red and i guess painful, he didnt even mind and for once stayed still, hes 17 months, it was huge shock lol

calmoseptine. you have to ask the phamacist for it. My daughter's butt was so sensitive that any BM no matter how quickly we cleaned her, would cause her butt to blister and bleed. A nurse at our Pedi suggested it. They use it on bed sores so you have to ask for it by name at the counter, it's not readily available on the shelves. it is the best diaper cream for sensitive bums.

I really am just worried about why his poop is doing this to him. We get it cleared up and as soon as he poops again it's back, almost like it burns him. It takes about 10 minutes for him to finish so it's only one his skin about that long.

I would cut out anything acidic in his diet until he can kick the rash... tomatoes, oranges, etc. See if that helps, maybe.

Could it be from all the antibiotics he's had? Like at least 20 rounds in 2 1/2 years. I'm waiting on his insurance to approve his surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids to fix the problem.

For sure! I've heard that you can give some acidophilus to LO's to help with diaper rash caused by antibiotics.

K. I have acidophilus powder that I've been giving him. I guess I'll just wait for them to kick in.

Normal color. Greasy looking. Very smelly (like more than normal). Multiple times a day. Usually he goes once or twice a day but now it's 5+

Yeah I would start cutting things from his diet, too, if he's having that many BM's in one day. I'd start with cutting out dairy which can cause diarrhea. See if that helps. If not, you can try cutting out anything acidic and see if it helps with the rash.
