Getting a New Dog...

posted 10th Feb
I've been thinking about getting another dog for awhile, and went on Kijiji this afternoon...I found myself a beautiful dog for a great price. Totally my kind of dog.

The dog I have now is great with other dogs, so that's not my concern. My concern is that I have a two month old daughter...The dog is younger, but not totally a puppy. I'm not concerned about the extra work, because if anything, I can use the distraction. But is it okay to be getting a dog when my LO is this young?

I think if you feel up for the extra work go ahead. Younger dog is always more active so you do have to watch out how active the doggie will be around your baby.

It's definitely doable. I adopted a 7 month old golden doodle rescue when my daughter was just shy of two, and now I'm pregnant again and not concerned. You can see in my display pic how well it worked out, lol. Just be careful with things like deworming, roundworm is extremely common and can be harmful to vulnerable humans. He'll require more vigilant training than usual to keep baby safe, you may need to keep them separated for a while. It's a ton of work, but if you think it's worth it I'm sure you'll manage.

I will just mention that I would be extremely cautious buying am animal from kijiji. It can come with a lot of ethical and practical concerns. But hey, one size does not fit all. If this is the right dog for you go for it, kijiji or no kijijji.

If you can handle the extra responsibility then I say go for it. I personally wouldn't just because after adopting my American eskimo when he was 4 and ending up with the perfect dog who was already perfectly trained I swore off buying puppies for ever and will probably only ever adopt an adult dog who needs a home.

I'm totally up for the extra work...that doesn't intimidate me at all!

I'm excited now...I'm getting myself a puppy!
