Cleaning an uncircumcised boy

DS is not circumcised. I have been cleaning his penis like you would a finger and NOT retracting the foreskin. SO and i are in an argument because he swears you are supposed to retract it or it will get infected.

Please help settle this argument.

I have never retracted the foreskin. It seems like it would be painful. DS is almost 5 and has never had an infection.

Do not retract, clean it the way it is. The skin could still be fused and that would be painful. It retracts on its own. Just clean what you can see.

When intact, do NOT retract! Only clean what is seen!

You never retract the foreskin. This is one reason that babies have to have circumcisions after the fact. Retracting a fused foreskin can cause small tears under the foreskin, and bacteria can get in THOSE and cause an infection.

The only person who should retract the foreskin is the owner of the penis. Sometimes the foreskin is still fused at puberty, even.

ahh okay. i knew it was something along those lines. like there is a time at some point that you can if you want, but i know it's not when they're little.

i don't have a boy yet, though. lol.

This happened to my DH. The first time he had intercourse it was still partially fused and ended up tearing and it was a horrid experience for him.
