Talk to your teachers and say you won't be available for the dates and ask for the assignments ahead of time and email them in. Missing classes in college is so not the same thing as missing in HS, my husband and I went on a 3 week trip last semester and he still got a 4.0 for the term.

Your MIL has no obligation to watch your child be grateful she does. She can do as she pleases with her life that's not your problem that's between her and her husband. So pay someone to watch your kid or take time off school.

we don't have the money! that's the whole problem, and it's so close to my finals weeks. I cannot miss 2 weeks worth of classes. I go every single day.

she didn't even consult this with us before she just went off and bought the tickets. I don't mind her going, but 2 weeks is a long time when it was only a weekend the other day.

she now wants us to pay the money the friend is loosing is she has to cut her trip short. How is THAT our problem when we told her to wait a day until I hear from my mom.

I think "obligation" was the wrong word to use in that sentence.

I don't care what she does with her life, that's between her and her husband. We DO NOT have the money to pay for anyone to watch our kid. We just don't have it. Nor do I trust some random nanny to watch my child. I would have to know the person, and I have no one. The only other friend I have is also in classes.

If I miss anytime that last week of march I'll be smurfed with finals. I have finals the first two weeks of April.

As I said its not her obligation to watch YOUR kid. It sucks but really what can you do? She's an adult she doesn't really need give you a notice it would be nice but as I say she doesn't have to. Either find someone to watch the baby, take time off, have DH/SO take time off or pay.

you are really selfish!!! she didn't bring your lo into the world you did!!! get over yourself and take care of your kid and stop thinking it's someone else's "obligation" to care for your lo!! i hope she goes on her trip and stays a couple months!!

I watch my nephew full time while my sister works and I would be LIVID if she said I couldn't go where I wanted (when I was giving her notice, I am assuming the trip wasn't told to you a couple of days before) because I had an obligation to watch him. Your MIL has grown children she has no obligations to watch your DS, it is good that she does but is in no way obligated.
