I agree with you 100% because I know people like this and it pisses me off because its almost an every day/night thing with them. Yeah there are weekends when my mom will keep my daughter all weekend for me if I have loads of schoolwork or watch her for a few hours but it is rare and I still go over every day to see her when she is away from me. Some people just don't have the patient to have their kids around them all day, I guess.

Hope your baby gets to come home soon!

Yup. A person can only do so much, though.

That is very true. I'm so glad that I live in Canada and don't have to worry about medical bills. Just dental

Wow, that seems like a really short period of time. My son was 10 weeks early and was there for 49 days.

wow thats a long time, i had a hard time for just 13 days leavin him there   but staying awake to finish all his feeding was his only problem, he was born with no breathing problems and after a few days he was maintaining his own body temp he had a little jaundice nad had to be under the light for about a day and a half and was good at the actual eating, he just would fall asleep so they had to tube feed him and they wouldnt let him go home until he didnt need to be tube fed for 48 hrs

I feel like you got really lucky! Or maybe that 2 weeks makes a huge difference? My son wasn't breathing on his own for at least the first two weeks. He didn't even have attempts at regular feedings for 4-5 weeks. He would spell like crazy all the time though. He came home on a heart monitor.

that's very unusual. sounds like your due date was off by a few weeks.
how much did he weigh?
human infants don't develop the suck/swallow reflex until 34 weeks. if your son was eating at all, for any length of time, he was probably 34 weeks, not 32.

My little girl was born 8 weeks early and stayed in the nicu for 4 weeks (265,000 bill) then was transferred to a step down hospital closer to home. She was there 3 weeks 6 days (65,000 bill). She had feeding problems, aspirations, bradys, destats etc she came home on a monitor! (She just got off if @ 5 months!). She has been threw a lot and they were thinking about putting a g tube. After the 2nd swallow eval it showed no aspiration on thickened fluids so we have to thicken all formula with rice cereal! She still has muscle weakness in her throat muscles. I know the empty feeling you have. I felt so lost with her not being with me! I stayed at the first hospital because it was 2 1/2 - 3 hours away. When she was closer to home she will still 45 minutes away. I still thing I have a little post traumatic stress from her hospital stay. If you every want to chat or need a friend PM feel free to pm me!

i thought the same thing, but they said he was only measuring 32 weeks, he weighed 4 lbs 13.4 oz and was 17 in long and he was eating since he was 2 days old (thats the first time they attempted a bottle) but he just wouldnt stay awake

i have a preemie as well... As for me, i felt the same as you. and still do. Everyone complains how they wish their child would not crawl and how its so hard for them to take care of their baby. Im GLAD mine crawls and gets into everything. because at one point we never knew if he would be able to. People complain that their child talks too much, i WISH mine would say mom or mama. He has cerebral palsy from being born 10 weeks early... I absolutely LOVED waking up every 2 hours and seeing his face..As crazy as it sounds i LOVED being sleep deprived caring for my son. because i know for a fact and have seen babies who were too small to live....and babies who died of infections in the NICU.. . Its just the little things a lot of the time moms with term babies take for granted. Having a preemie makes life into a whole new perspective. You are grateful for each day...
