If you click the link it explains it better but basically you can turn off notifications like your phone is on silent but allow only certain people to make it ring. Example: you want a nap but your SO may call you about something important and you don't wanna miss that phone call but you also don't want to be woken up if someone texts you or calls you. That's when blocking mode comes in handy. I work overnights and sleep a lot during the day so this is definitely useful for me.
