sippy cup?

posted 9th Feb
ok so i forgot to ask this yesterday, my son is 9 months old, i have tried multiple sippy cups but he will only take them if i hold them, but he LOVES waterbottles! he will drink out of them anytime he can! but anyways my son has recently lowered his formula intake! no matter how much i try to get him to drink more he refuses! he wants food, (i dont blame him formula smells disgusting! but he has to have it!) his pedi told me i should try the sippy cup, see if he will take it better through that. i thought you werent supposed to do that? it confuses the babies is what ive heard. plus he holds his bottles perfectly fine he just wont hold a sippy and wont drink much outta there either. so i guess my question is, would it be ok to use the sippy for formula?? (even with docs approval im just not to sure of it...) and is there ANY WAY i can get him to drink his formula again! he used to be at 8oz but is now only taking about 4 to 5oz at a time... he eats 2 puree meals a day, has since he was around 6.5 months (started him on baby foods at 4 months due to doctor recommendation) nothing else has changed besides that i added a minor snack, instead of those baby cereal puffs i changed it to yogurt, sliced up banana, etc.. but ive been doing that for abot 1.5 months. this vottle change has only happened recently.. like the last 2 weeks :-( any help would be greatly appreciated! sorry for the ramble.. lol

My son used a sippy cup for formula from 7 months on. The bottle is just used because that is what they can suck out of best as a newb.

Yeap. He did great with a sippy and sometimes it goes down as they get older. That was 3 years ago for me though. My daughter was only taking 24 oz of formula from 2 months till a year old per day.

oh well i hope my son takes it well. i am just so worried he is going to have issues. he used to eat so much and now he will get at most 20oz a day. i know they are supposed to have atleast 24 so it worries me :-(

My son has always had breast milk but he never would use a bottle so at 3 months he got his sippy cup with milk in it... I stopped pumping at 5 months... Ran out of bm at 10 and started him on cow milk. now he drinks from a straw sippy at 14 months. I'd give him a cup with a straw if I trusted him not to throw it... But yeah right

So IMO if the fotmula intake is less than u would like just give ur LO more food

It's fine for him to drink formula from a sippy cup. If he doesn't do well with a sippy, you could always try getting a different kind.

he has very little water during the day, like a sip of a water bottle of mine, but since ive been sick all he has gotten is formula. so its been about 5 days since he has had any extra liquids during the day... ive tried multiple sippy cups also, not sure of names though. but ive tried atleast 5 different brands, all different set up for the mouth piece. i was told to try one with a straw but ive tried cups with straws first (i dont have the extra money to buy even more brands at the moment) and he wont take it. he bites the straw than tries to eat it :-( ive even tried the hard plastic straws.. :-/

Bruce started on a sippy he was about 6months (just getting familiar with it) he didn't start using it regularly until about 11months and would only take juice or water in it. he uses one all the time now even for milk sometimes. Oh yeah and i always had to hold it for him till was 11months he didn't start holding his bottle until he was a year tho
