mediation? attourney general? what to do??

posted 9th Feb
Me and my boyfriend recently broke up,
I want to make sure my boyfriend cannot take my son from me, but I don't want to take away his rights because I know he cares alot for our son and that our son adores him just as much as he does me.
My family keeps telling me I should go file with the attorney general so he can't take my son away from me, but I don't want to take it that far.
I was thinking maybe mediation so we can both agree on something because we both want to be in our childs life..
Whats the best advice I can get on what I should do?

either a lawyer or a mediator. IF you guys can agree on a custody agreement, you can just draw up papers and have a judge sign them. why would you need the attorney general?

Don't take it to court ever. They are after money that none of us have! I spent $10k at court. If he wants to see the kid let him see it. If he won't pay you for child support, you can file something on the Internet. NOT COURT. Don't go there if you can avoid it.

thank you, thats what I was thinking because we've both agreed on everything already..
I'm not sure why we'd need the attorney general my family has just advised going to him to get full custody so my bf can't take him away..

Does he have a babysitter? Then I'd doubt he'd take the kid. I get threatened all the time. You know how much daycare costs? Just be nice and don't argue. It's hard, but I'm sure you can act like an adult and work something out. Compromise. You are going to be stuck dealing with him for a couple of years. Bite your toungue if you have to. That's what I learned. I'm probably way older then you... That's what I learned. It's better to say nothing then have a stupid arguement.

I think a mediator would be best. It gets the legalities settled without actually going to court. I say go to court only as a LAST RESORT.
