how do you feel about TV and Preschoolers?
how often should they be allowed to watch?
what should they be allowed to watch?
How do you feel about NO TV? or occasional TV, maybe just a couple times a week, or less ?

Under 4 years old no television.
After 4 years old, in moderation (30 minutes or so per day)

Well my son is 18 months and he watches about an hour of tv a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Spongebob holds his attention the longest but its never a full hour in one shot. Although recently Kidsongz on the kindle he will sit for for almost 30mins.

Idk about the whole appropriate thing because I'm super liberal when it comes to that stuff. I just don't want him watching anything "scary." I was very fearful as a child so I don't want him to be too.

to me TV takes over the time in the day when a child could be using their imagination. i feel TV is poison to kids. im so sorry, i really dont want to offend ANYONE at all! . to each their own   but i just think kids under 6 learn through immitating and even though a lot of the shows mean well and try to be educational, its just not in a way. they are still settin examples of bad behavious and how to correct them but children just dont understand as we - the adults ( that create these tv shows , do.

i think shows that are truly for learning are good (disney junior) and i see nothing wrong with a "wind down" movie for bed as long as its a kid movie.

I was only ever allowed to watch the discovery channel as a kid and was allowed to watch it from the time I could talk and it made me an extremely smart child. I knew things about nature, animals, and science that most adults didn't know by the time I was two and was also reading books by the time I was two (not due to television of course). In my senior year I was still using facts in my biology class that I had learned well before I started school. Also since it was the only tv I was allowed to watch until I was about 6-7 I didn't find it boring since I barely realized cartoons existed. Ill probably follow the same example my mom set with my children.

I let my 14 month old watch an hour long show almost everyday... It's a show called Hi-5 with lots of singing and story time! It's the only show he sits down and watches. He just dances like crazy to it. But really he'd much rather read books and play outside all day... I usually put it on when I'm trying to get things done like dinner and he's being super whining...

We broke our tvs and threw them away. It's very, very, very rare for my DD to watch something for herself. Its been proven to limit creativity and imagination. Plus its an extremely high number of sexual innuendoes/scenes that a child sees just by commercials. Even cartoons put it in, with characters kissing out etc.

We use tv for wind down time Any time they're getting way too boisterous, I turn it on for an episode of something.

Or I use it for "babysittng" so I can get something done.

We only have Netflix and the kids know they can't touch the Wii remote so it's completely controlled by me.

LO gets to watch TV when I need to shower/ready for work. That's about it.

So I use it for babysitting

We're also never home

Everyone is out of the house by 10am and no one gets back until nearly 4pm

because reading was not instilled in their daily rhythms.
