Quoting Stl mama:" <blockquote><b>Quoting Asher's mommy [Expecting :</b>" Paraguard is the non-hormonal ... [snip!] ... IUD... you're thinking of Implanon"</blockquote> Thanks doc! They all sound the same to me. What's paraguard?"

It's an IUD that releases trace amounts of copper to kill sperm, so it's non-hormonal. It lasts for up to ten years.

I'm getting paragard after this baby for this reason. Plus hormonal BC makes me crazy lol. I seriously dont feel like myself when I am on them, and DH has noticed a difference too, so I know I'm not imagining it. I have heard they can make your periods heavier, and more painfull though

I had Mirena for over two years (took it out so I could TTC). I really liked it. The first few months there was a lot of bleeding and some clotting, but once I got through that, it was pretty smooth sailing. I had an increase in discharge, which caused me to be more prone to yeast infections, but that was my only real issue. I didn't have a regular period, just some spotting every once in a while (usually around the date that I would get my period, but not every month). I would also freak out sometimes when it shifted because I couldn't feel my string, but it was always there.

It all depends on your body, I lost over 60lbs while on Mirena. It effects everyone differently.

<blockquote><b>Quoting B-Baby:</b>" btw why has it been so bad after getting it removed????? why did you get it removed???? "</blockquote>

I got it removed to TTC. Had it for 20 mths. My periods have been horrible and painful after and I had a ruptured ectopic back in October. I was told that the iud cause scar tissue to build up in my tube.

I have had the mirena for 18 months. I love it! I don't have a period and have had NO pregnancy scares

I got it after my daughter was born and took it out to ttc #2 and got pregnant within 6 months (I had it in for 2 1/2 years)

Quoting B-Baby:" my doctor said most women don't get a period at all with an IUD.. or maybe that's just with the Mierna....."

It's just with the Mirena because it's hormonal. Paragard is not. And the whole no period thing is only for some people. They say the same about the Implanon too, for me I bled for 3 months straight. What works for one person doesn't always work for the next.
