Advise please: How to stop using the swing for naptime

posted 9th Feb
Hey All!

I wrote a post the other day about how my swing broke down and how devastated it left me. Well... after a few days of manually pushing the swing for hours & DS not sleeping as well because when you manually push it's hard to have the same consistent motion, I have decided that perhaps it's time to transition from the swing to the crib for naps.

Already DS slips in the crib for night sleep so it's not that he is adverse to it... but naps are harder for him and I'm sure he benefited from the motion.

Anyone make this transition before? Any tips?

TIA

Can you get another swing?

You can find them online for cheap on auction sites.

Rock the baby in your arms. I will never understand swings. I wear my kids.

I wear DS also but he never falls asleep in the bjorn or k'tan. When he is tired he fights to get out.

I could but eventually he has to get out of the habit of sleeping in the swing. Right now he lifts up his head out of the seat so I imagine that one day this will lead him to being thrown out of the swing (we dont use the belts cause he is swaddled in the swing)

swaddle him, rock him, and hum. thats the only way I could get my son to sleep for months, because the swing become ineffective.

I would fight to get out of a Bjorn too. But I meant hold them to put them to sleep and wear them if they don't want to be put down.

True.. the Bjorn seems more for more (long term carrying) than for baby's comfort. I wore DS in the k'tan today.. took him 30 minutes to fall asleep but then he napped for 2hrs!!! Great suggestion. Any suggestions as to not make carrying him so painful on my shoulders and back? he is 15lbs.

Make sure you are wearing it properly. Keep good posture. Babywearing tends to make you over compensate in one direction, remember this and use atomic muscles to help. My son is 26+ lbs, I just have to remember not to slouch and my back does fine. at any time leaning your head forward makes your spine carry up to 3xs the weight your head actually weighs.
