What age do you not have to worry about SIDS?

posted 9th Feb
The owner of a facebook page called "The Progressive Parent", her 14 month old son died last night of SIDS. I thought that the risk of SIDS dropped off at 12 months? I guess its not an exact science though. Can't stop crying. Especially after what the mother wrote, "You were learning to wave. I didn't know you were saying goodbye. Please come play with me in my dreams." I just want to hold onto my son and never let go. But that darn little boy just has to play with the soap on the windowsill. refuses to hug me right now. eh.

its been heard of up to 14 months...

BUT SIDS can happen any time after that too... its just called Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome or SDS or something...

that's horrible... i' always scared anytime Cillian sleeps through the night, prayers for her family.

Pretty sure her son was 8 months

and anyone can drop dead at any second for no reason

but the SIDS risk drops off around 6 months

It does less with age and at 12 months it drops by about 1/2 the chance from what I have read. There's a lot of speculation of different causes of SIDS but I have heard of it happening to children up to age 2, but there are probably kids older which it has occurred to. It's so sad though when it does happen, I still fear for that kind of stuff and I check on my kids every night.

SIDS is the reason I am so tired. I hate sleeping because I just watch my son breathing... when I read this I cried and had to stop just to hold my sons hand and tell him how much I love him. heartbreaking

yeah with my son, my husband would wake me up every hour if I didnt get up already for bfing and have me check to be sure he was breathing. I have horrible hearing, his crib was next to my bed, so I learned to listen for his breathing at night.
