Is this normal after a shot? -PIC-

Yesterday my DD got her 1 year old shots, well the nurse put 2 in 1 thigh pretty close together (probably 1mm apart) well today when DD & I woke up, and I went to change her diaper I noticed it got all red around the injection site. It has a pretty good lump with it too. It doesn't seem as if it is bothering her at all but it has me pretty worried, especially since the redness has dispersed a bit throughout the day. My mom who is a pediatric nurse told me it happens when she first saw it but when I showed it to her again she got a little worried. So I called the Pedi's nurse line & I am waiting for someone to call me back, but I am just wondering if this has ever happened after a shot or not with your LO's?

At my DD's 6 month shots they did shots in her thighs and they ended up looking like that. When I asked at her following appointment at her 9 month check up the nurse told me the previous nurse probably put the needle too far down. I am not exactly sure if that is a true statement she gave me but DD's leg didn't have the huge lump or redness when the nurse at the 9 month appointment administered her shots.

She said as long as it goes away and she continues to do her normal activites DD would be fine. She also put a highlighted note in her chart about it so they would be more careful.
