hacking up a lung

My 10 day old is constantly gaging and coughing she sounds like she is dying the way she gags and coughs... anyone have any ideas as to why she might be doing this? we were up almost all night because everytime she did it my husband and i freaked... sometimes its worse then others.

No idea unless it is reflux choking her. I would call her pedi right away if it were me.

she may still be coughing up some mucous from the amniotic fluid. Our daughter has to have a humidifier because she was really congested when she was born. And hey she is 10 days old too!

call her doctor, babies that little can have something minor wrong and it can turn into something very serious very quickly

oh I wanted to add, try getting a humidifier to loosen it all up and use the little suctioner thingy everytime she coughs gags or sneezes.

yep may 30th! congrats!

My son was stuffed up after birth. We got a cool mist humidifier. It worked well.

do you suction her mouth? i get nervous doing her mouth not sure how far to suction...

yeah,you do it on the inside of the cheek. And I don't really think about how far in I stick it, I just do it really quickly. Mostly her nose though, the humidifier makes her sneeze it all up more than anything.
