G diapers

Has anyone used them? We used disposables for both of our kids. My daughter had horrible bleeding diaper rash every single time she had a BM. it didn't matter how quickly we got to it. I'd rather use full on cloth this time, but my husband is the one who will be at home and is not keen on the idea. I want an alternative to Pampers just in case Ollie has a tender bum like his big sister.

I figure if I go w/G- diapers it will be an easier transition on good ol' hubsy for me to sneak a cloth in there now and then.

WDYT? are they good, bad, ok, but not worth the investment?

I used them as a transition point between disposable and cloth for the same reasons. Honestly, I prefer full cloth. They tend to leak because the plastic liner is a pretty finite space, it's difficult to add absorbency the way you can with other cloth. Also it's a lot of laundry to go through without a lot of the benefits. The refills are expensive, and you can just spend 5$ on a roll of 100 flushable cloth diaper liners anyways. That being said, I did still use them with just a pre fold as an insert as an emergency laundry day diaper. And in fairness, before I finally made the full switch I did FAR prefer G's to straight up disposable. Plus they're super adorable. Just crazy expensive for what you're actually getting out of it.

Maybe consider a brand of disposable like seventh generation, something unbleached and biodegradable but still just a standard huggies-style diaper. I found they helped with sensitive skin too. Starting off with all in one cloth diapers might ease transition too. I'm addicted to straight up old school flat diapers (been learning newborn folds like a madwoman prepping for new baby all week), but I usually just keep a drawer of already assembled 1 or 2 piece dipes around for BDs convenience.

In all honesty, I really want to just spend maybe 30.00 on Alva baby diapers and inserts. Get enough for us to try it on, say a weekend, and if hubsy really is against it, I didn't invest too much. I could be completely addicted very easily, but laundry is the one chore that gets put off until no one has socks and underwear LOL I'm not sure my family is organized enough to go full on cloth, but I'd like to give it a shot.

Haha, I totally hear ya there. I'm that woman constantly in mismatched socks and making "clean enough" calls on jeans that probably shouldn't be worn for another day. Laundry is not my friend. I think the reason cloth worked for me regardless was the realization that I was spending that time on diapers anyways. Load of laundry roughly equals the effort of running to the corner store to buy a pack of sposies. I think getting an affordable option to give it a trial run is probably the best way to do it. It took me forever to transition, my daughter wasn't fully in cloth until after her first birthday (just in time to potty train! Lol), so my experience putting together a full cloth stash for this new baby is very new. There are a lot of awesome diaper swapping sites out there where you can pick up a huge stash for nothing, might be a good way of giving it a trial run. Some diaper services do the same thing, where you can sort of rent a stash for a week or two and decide from there.

Like I said, I tried EVERYTHING for my daughters sensitive skin, and it definitely isn't cloth or nothing. There's plenty of grey area in between, you guys are bound to find the perfect fit.

IDK if I'm personally Ok, w/ used diapers. That idea kinda grosses me out. However, Alva baby diapers are only about 5.00 each w/a standard insert. I'm on a co-op where I can get them for 3ish each and the inserts are 1.00 or so each. So, I could get about 10 diapers for teh price of 1 custom. I just might when we get the tax return. just keep them on hand and see if I can convince him.

He'll be a stay at home dad who goes to school 2-3 days a week, while I work full time. I bet if we tried, we'd get into the swing of things.

I'm not nuts about used diapers either. I've accepted this little guy is going to be stuck wearing some of his sisters hand-me-downs once he's grown into them, but I've never gone the full diaperswappers.com route with it. Thought it was worth mentioning, I guess it's a pretty common choice for moms that are comfy with the concept.

But wow, 5$? You really can't argue with that. Just getting plain scraps of thick, soft cotton fabric is a great way to spend next to nothing (or literally nothing, I've used receiving blankets in a pinch) if you fold them up to use as extra inserts/boosters too. I've even folded up squares of cotton to use as g-diaper inserts successfully.

My family is kind of the reverse of yours, I'm at home with kiddos (dd just turned three, ds due in 8 weeks) with classes and shifts a couple of days a week and my partner is off at work full time. It's always difficult making adjustments to a busy family's routine, especially when it comes to the kids' needs. But with minimal initial financial investment, plenty of transition time to find what works for you, and wet bags freaking EVERYWHERE (there's no way I'm going to carry a diaper up to the nursery's wet bag every single time) it can totally become routine. And if not, no big deal. Plenty of other options out there to try.
