Check the local church mother morning out preschool programs, they are significantly cheaper and generally offer 2,3,5 day schedules and are only half day

I never even thought of looking at churches. I figured they would be more because they're considered "private".

Some centers might, some might not. It all depends on the center really.
Heathen goes to pre-school 5 days a week from 830-12. We pay $210 a month.
But, they also have a drop in program at hers, that if I have an appointment, I can drop her off for an hour or so with no issues, just pay the hourly rate. But it's a smaller center. The bigger/chain/church centers here are mostly daily care. I don't think they do 'part-time' care like you're looking for.
Just call around or ask some friends for recommendations and see what they say

I think you need a certain amount of hours per month

Not here they aren't. We have a bunch to chose from as well.

important to remember though... daycare is a tax deduction, preschool is not.

call around. Every area has differnet costs. There is part time, wiht a set number of hours/cost.. or there is drop in. usually more per hour.. but no set hours you have to pay.

If you know you want LO in say.. mon wed friday for 3 hours each day... you find one that has openings for that... they schedule part time people for the other hours...

also.. check what their schedule is. I did part time daycare for social interraction with my twins when they were 3. I checked their schedule.. so I knew not to waste money dropping them off during naptime.

I found one that's right next to my house and the part time hours are M-F 830-12 pm for $75.00/week.

Sound reasonable?

That's not bad, especially if it is a convenient location that you won't be shelling out a ton of gas money for!

what do you mean? since always. Preschool is not a tax deduction. childcare is. I'm sure there are people who deduct it.. and would get into trouble if audited..

As long as the person claiming that child is working or was "looking for work", it still counts as child care. The IRS sees no difference between Pre-K and Daycare.

Well they are all wrong. I don't know what else to tell you. The government doesn't care about the difference in curriculum or if the center is licensed for naps and meals. They only care about what you paid and what you're doing while that child is in someone else's care.
