How long did it take you?

I'm 6 months pregnant & SO & I have barely even thought of any names for our daughter. We're getting suggestions left & right from everyone about what we should name her. SOs parents are dead set on us naming her after his little sister. (I'm 100% against it. They already have a granddaughter from his ex who took the family name Merrie as her middle name & Thomas as the last. I don't want to favor either family in picking a name). My sister is coming up with names for me & she's been dead set on Zoe (which we also hate. We've told her that but she still continues to talk to my belly, calling her Zoe).
SO & I are having a hard time choosing because we know, no matter what we choose, someone is going to give us a bunch of crap for it. We're trying to steer away from names that start with "A" since his daughter's name is Allison.
How long did you mamas out there take to come up with a name? Was it this effing difficult for you?
I'm almost to the point where, once we settle on a name, we're not going to tell anyone until she arrives. & on that note, any suggestions?!?!

I didn't name my daughter until she was born. In your case, if you decide to name the baby before birth, I would suggest you not tell anyone the name. And I wouldn't stand for anyone calling my baby a name I wasn't choosing.

We had a boy name picked out before we got pregnant, but couldn't agree on a girl name. When we found out at our 20 week ultrasound that it was a girl we picked the name within a week.

Yeah, my sister calls her Zoe & SOs mom calls her Tommi. I almost can't stand it. I'm eternally grateful for their support with me having a child but I feel like, because they're supportive, they think they can dictate how I go through this pregnancy & motherhood. SO & I have told them multiple times that we haven't come up with a name & that we aren't naming her Tommi or Zoe. It gets so frustrating.

we didn't have any trouble. he was names before he was even in my belly. lol
My best friend on the other hand didn't name her last two untill 6weeks after they were born when she was sitting in the registry office getting their birth certificates. lol.

I was set on having a boy (I was getting the whole, "Oh, based on this old wives tale....etc" from everyone so my mind gravitated to me having a baby boy. I was so excited because SO & I settled on the name Caleb Ryan (it satisfied everyone: my mom has loved the name Caleb since I can remember & she doesn't have any sons & Ryan is SOs middle name). Now that we're having a girl, it's difficult because it seems like everyone has to put their two cents in. SO didn't get a say in his daughter's name since his ex controlled the pregnancy (the only reason why she chose to take the family name from his side was because she wanted to get back with him & figured that getting in good with his family meant he would love her again. DUMB). I definitely want him to have a say in our daughter's name. He said, in the end, it's all up to me but I don't want that kind of power! LOL

& I didn't know you could wait that long to name your children....

Omg so what did she refer to them as for the first 6 weeks of life? I had nightmares about not having a name for DD when I was pregnant before I even knew if I was having a boy or a girl. In my dreams she was always a baby girl and I didn't know what to name her until she was weeks old. Bc of my nightmares I had a boy name and a girl name picked out by the time I had my gender ultrasound.

Last pregnancy I had a boys name picked, she turned out to be a girl.
This time we agreed on a girls name right away, and it's a boy lol.

We aren't telling many people the name we settled on. People will find out when he is born, it's kind of hard to argue once they see the baby is here and that the name is chosen haha.

on all the paper work they were referred to as "baby suckling" (that her last name) she had no help in naming them and she's a big worry wart, didn't wanna upset anyone with her name choises. she just called them "my baby girl" while she decided. they're now called Lillie, Sophie and Ellin. (the last ones called ellin cause i joked and said you should name her after were she was born (in a elevator) and she took the idea and called her ellin. lol.

I don't know what kind of style I like! LOL. I'm just trying to think of what would be cute with the last name Thomas. I guess if I see/hear the name that's perfect, I'll know. It's just every name I've heard so far is either a NO or well, it's alright....

I'm also 6 months. This is my 3rd and final baby. My family is trying to get me to name him Stephen which isn't happening.
