Baby stopped breathing, mommy & baby both terrified :((

posted 9th Feb
Last night I got up to change my baby girls diaper, she is 5 weeks old today. I layed her on her back & she started grunting, eventually she stopped breathing all together. I grabbed her up patting her back trying not to panic but it was the scariest moment of my life. All 15 seconds of her fighting to breathe looking terrified. She was stiffing her body out arching her neck & back . She finally was able to get a little cry out & then started breathing again. Im still in tears thinking about it I will never forget it. But it hasnt happend before this & thank God it hasnt happened since, yet. I layed her on my chest on her tummy & listened to her breathe all night I was scared if i fall asleep she'll stop breathing & i wont be able to help her. I also have a 4 year old daughter but I never experience anything like this with her. Has this happened to any one else? What could it have been? She hadn't ate for a good hour before this . She rarely spits up but she did last night before this happened but I cleaned her mouth out as best as i could so she wouldn't choke on it.

My first did this at about a week old. He stopped breathing twice before the ambulance arrived. Scary smurf! Turns out it was from reflux due to milk protein allergy. Could this be a possibility for your baby?

call your doctor she has acid reflux my son did the same thing and he would stop breathing due to the reflux stopping at his gage reflux and shutting off his breathing. The arching of the back is a tell tale sign of it I wouldn't lay her flat in the mean time.

This is what I was thinking. I would also definitely look into getting an Angel Care movement monitor. They are a tad expensive, but have saved lives, and well worth it IMO. We still use ours, and DS is 10 months old. (Sorry it won't let me post the link)
