what the..

posted 9th Feb
just seen this comment reply on a friends status about her son waking up a lot during the night

"honestly, if he doesn't start sleeping by 10-12 months, i'd get the ball rolling with a specialist. the prescription sedative + sleep aid nic is on don't make him sleep through the night, or even CLOSE. he's still up about 15-25x, varying by night.... BUT, they DO minimize the length of time he's up every time he wakes, and they do make PUTTING him to bed a lot easier. so, if he ends up having the same sleep issues as nic, the sooner you can get them to do something, the better. it was a behavioralist that put nic on the sedative, and after that, he pedi prescribed the sleep aid on top of it... but it took a year of no sleep for anyone to do anything. the behavioralists take a long time to get an appt with, so definitely request the referral in advance. what's his sleep schedule like at this point, and what was it at it's best?"

seriously!?

smurf my kid didnt sleep through the night til well over a year and i never though oh maybe i should drug him up so i can get some sleep

My middle child didn't sleep through the night until well over a year old either...but getting up 15-25 times a night is crazy excessive.

Mine is 2 and wakes up at least 1-2 times a night I would never medicate her. I think it's normal and won't last forever.

Wtf is wrong with people? My son didn't sleep through the night until he was over the age of TWO. He's almost 4 now & still wakes up during the night once in a while.

same. i mean yea her kid she says was waking up tons but i would assume something else was wrong with the child.. and to suggest it to someone whos kid is waking up to what i think is a normal amount, DAMN. i sure hope she doesnt take her advice seriously.

I would seriously cry if my kids didn't sleep through the night. All three of them have since coming home for the hospital..lets hope this little boy isn't any different. I really think co sleeping makes all the difference.

it gets better...

he's a COMPLETELY different person when he gets a little bit of sleep. normally, he's very on edge + irritable. when he takes a good nap, he is super happy, and sociable, and just relaxed, content. it's amazing that without getting REM sleep, he's so far ahead of the curve, developmentally. i can only imagine how far ahead he'd be if he WAS getting the REM sleep needed for brain development.

That is terrible. Whoever thinks this is clearly ignorant.

almost wanted to be like the child needed sleep or was it just you..because theres plenty of parents out there that go many sleepness nights with their children, and those children are still developing just fine

I'm going to assume 15-25x a night is an exaggeration. Before the age of 2, my son woke up sometimes as much as 5 or 6 times a night. He still had a bottle in bed (my bad, I know), & whenever it would get empty he'd wake up again for more milk. It was a TERRIBLE cycle that I had to break, but once I did, all was good & he slept wonderfully ever since

i mean the girl admitted hes teething so yes, that would wake up a child at night and make him scream and cry...

okay yes your child apparently woke up a ton, and apparently never went into 'rem sleep' no need to suggest to HER to ask the pedi about medicating him for waking up for normal smurf
