Nighttime Feedings

posted 9th Feb
LO used to wake once to nurse at night. I've completely lost my supply and had to start him on formula this week. Hes been drinking so much and still waking multiple times to feed. He takes about 5 6-oz bottles a day. Then has dinner with the family. Last night he ate a ton, had a 8oz bottle before bed and then still woke at 12am, 3am and 5am, each time drinking a 6oz bottle. I don't want to refuse him food when he is hungry, but how in the world can I discourage these nighttime feedings because it's getting out of hand...?

my daughter is like that now i think its more of a habbit now because she had ear infections ect and she got tubes and can sleep in longer streches now but she picked up the habbit its a hard cycle to brake.

Just sounds like a crazy ton of food!!! Must be a growth spurt... he might wake but he wouldn't actually eat that much during the night unless he was starving I would think!! Feel sorry for you though mama... that must be exhausting after you thought you were through that stage!! I'm sorry I have no advice for ya!

Yeah,he always eats it all and im not one for letting my kids CIO. I figure if hes hungry he needs it. Its just so much. I try offering
a pacifier instead of the bottle or rocking him but he starts rooting so I know he's hungry. Maybe its a comfort thing as we used to nurse at night. I offer the boob still, even though there isn't anything left in them, but it hurts because he sucks so hard since nothing is coming out.

how much solid food does he eat during the day? Could you try and up it to try and get rid of night time feeding or at least some night time feedings?
My son still wakes up 1-2 times usually (nursing), I feed him two snacks a day plus one sometimes two meals.
He is 9 1/2 months

What about dilluting the formula until it's majority water? perhaps then he would have less interest in it.

He'd been eating three solid meals a day but lately he hasn't been interested. Its hit or miss with him. But even if he has a huge dinner he still wakes up a few hours later for another bottle.
