sippy cups

posted 9th Feb
DD turned 8 months Jan 24. when we went to her 6 month app her pedi said he wanted to see her using a sippy cup by her 9 month checkup. so my parents got her various kinds. also a couple of bottles with different types of nipples. she just now got to where she'd use the bottle type nipple on one of them. she's been using the Dr. Brown's since about 1 month old and wouldn't use any other. when we give her the sippy nipple, she just dribbles it out. should we be pushing it more or would you just not worry about it? DH thinks we should try giving her the bottle nipple as little as possible and stop using the Dr. Brown's all together.

Personally, i would give her sippy cups with a little drink in they and just let her explore it for a while. She will naturally put it in her mouth to explore it. My daughter had a sippy since 6 months but i would hold it to let her drink but also let her just play with it to get used to it.

i tried and she gets it every where every time. i usually try a few times every other day and if i'm not holding it, she'll just throw it down...guess i'll try sitting it down with her more.

Honestly, doctor our not, don't stress it...when she is ready adage will use it. It's not going to hurt her to keep her bottle a bit longer. Yes,.he/she is a doctor but you are momma so as long as there's no harm you trump doctor! :-)

see, i don't think it's that big of a deal really. i would like to be rid of the bottle by no later than a yr and 1/2 (preferably a yr) though.

Then just try from time to time until she gets it. Some babies are set in their way and it takes time. Sound like you know what's goodfor your family so do things your way.

Don't doubt yourself if it's something you feel is right for your family. Know one knows you're cold better than you so unless it could be life threatening just do what works for your situation.

Good! You could have another baby and every thing that worked before is wrong for the new baby. You just do what works for him/her.

oh, i've heard that before. i've also learned that what may work one day, wk, or month, may not work the next.

Are you using water in the sippy? That's what we do just for practice. It makes less mess, is interesting to them because it's different from their usual formula, and they only end up getting a few sips out of it anyways. Also, make sure you have the ones that you have to suck on to get the liquid out to reduce spilling. Mine have been liking the Nuk ones with a tall soft spout best. I find it closest to a bottle nipple. But other than exploring with them, I don't think it's overly important for them to be using them all the time or anything!

My son is 10 months and just started drinking out of his sippy cup. We never pushed it. I think your lo will take to it when she is ready just offer it to her every so often and let her explore with it. Also, maybe try the spill-proof sippy cups to avoid messes. Good luck
